Default 4.8 petrol engine

Hi Guys,

what do you say about the Nissan 6 inline 4.8 petrol engine? easy conversion? 285 HP...
why not do that? why all are going for the 6.6 duramax, or 6.5 DI?

thanks

Joy

because, people with diesel want to stay with diesel
Tb48 drinks a lot of fuel
torque... duramax has 500 lb-ft @ 1,600 rpm
tb48 310 lb·ft @ 3600 rpm

Because some people think that spending a lot of money on an aftermarket engine conversion makes more sense than NOT doing so, and paying a relatively small ongoing 'penalty' in fuel costs.

Even if a 4.8 were to use 10l/100km more than one of the various diesel engine conversions, that is only ~$15 per hundred kays. ~$150 per thousand kays, or ~$1500 per 10k kms. If you work on 20k km per year, then the difference would be maybe $3k per year in fuel costs, with no capital outlay. If one were to spend $30k on a diesel engine conversion, the it would take AT LEAST 10 years to recover the difference in running costs alone. Not to mention resale should you ever want to sell the vehicle - try selling an extensively modified vehicle versus a basically standard one (the market for the modified one is MUCH smaller).

To each their own - some people want to believe that diesel fuel will save the world, cure cancer, and give you the winning lotto numbers as well.

Just drove from Bacchus Marsh, up through Greendale, TRentham, back way to Seymour and ended up in Wangaratta. Managed 14L/100km in my 4.8 Best figures to date.
