Orange light on GQ dash

Gday guys,

Just wondering what the lttle orange light on the dash (its at the bottom of the tacho under where it says R/min) means. It came on yesterday aswell as the battery light and the handbrake warning light. (handbrake was off). I was thinking possibly the alternator??? Volts are reading just under 12v. car starts and runs fine...for now.

Any ideas?

You should have a higher voltage reading than 12V. However, I do not trust Nissan gauges very much. Get yourself a voltage meter and with the car off, check the voltage at the battery. It should be 12V or maybe just a bit over. Next start up the truck and check the voltage. If you are not getting around 13V, then there is something wrong in your charging system - probably your alternator. If this is the case, take your alternator off and take it to an automotive parts place which has a bench tester. Most good parts places which have a bench tester will test your alternator for free. Now if it is bad, it doesn't mean you need to buy a new one. You can usually have it fixed up for less than the cost of a new one or a rebuilt one off the shelf.
