Does anyone have any idea how I can tell what type of Air Conditioning Compressor mine is - Rotary or otherwise? I've searched the net everywhere for the info but come up short.. I want to set up an on board air set-up to run my tools, but not sure what I need until I can figure out the pump type.. Is there a way of determining if it is rotary?

It's a Harrison model compressor, made by GM.. Model No. 1131743..

I thought that all barrel looking compressors were rotary, and the compressors with a finned block and head - look like a York - were the other type.

Going by that theory, it's rotary.. now I just have to figure the rest of the set-up out.. Time to do some reading me thinks

There are two main types that a majority of 4x4ers seem to go for....

The "YORK 210 " & the "SADEN SD508"

They seem to work well and last a reasonable amount of time.
I run a Saden 508 and the air inlet is connected to the engines air cleaner so that the dust/mud is kept out of the pump. I also have a "Flashlube" system ( which is specifically designed to put oil into LPG powered cars for better head/valve lubrication ) which I have introduced into the air inlet pipe, this "dribbles" a tiny amount of oil into the pump during operation.

To date it hasnt looked like it will give any problems although its has only been fitted for about a year now but it gets a regular work out I might add, I have plumbed it so that I can plug in a rattle gun, tyre guage/inflater, blower nozzle, etc ...
I could probably use a spray gun off of it if I fitted a water trap !

The problem I have with switching compressors is that I run a serpentine belt, and the air con compressor is part of that system.. The brackets are also sitting there for it so it'd be a hastle to change.. At this point I'll try and put it to use and just see how it goes..
