Hi all having greif with a rear axle seal replaced it twice still bloddy leaking.where the seal meets the axle there is a tiny shinny groove from where the seal has been running. This is the problem i think. The thing i want to know can i ad a couple more shims say about 4mm in to get the seal on to a new bit of the axle. thanks:cheers: :iconbana:

Hi mate
I have heard of a product called a "speedy sleve" that basically will slide over the axel and create a new flat surface for the seal to seal on. Try a company that sells bearing supplies like CBC Bearings. Good luck!

Hi there black gq rang the bearing place about a speedy sleve before. The guy there said dont bother. The axle is 42.5 mm there is not a speedy sleve made for that size axle only 42mm.Said has one that is very close. Had a guy tried to do 1 and split 2 of them at $30 bucks a pop. The local bearing guy knows everything about gq"s he owens a very nice gq

Just a thought. See if you can get a machine shop to build it up and machine it down to size. It 's worth a try. We often get things repair that way at work and it still amazes me what work they can do.

You can do what I have done with my seals. It usually works. Take the spring out from inside the new seal and you will see that there is a join in the circular spring. Twist one side one way and the other side the opposite way and the two sides will separate. It is just a pointy bit that screws into the hollow end section like a thread. Cut about 5 mm off the hollow end and twist the ends back together. Fit it back into the seal and the rubber will hold a bit tighter on the shaft. Put some grease on the rubber surface before fitting axle through it. It's worth a try anyway. Stevo.
