Hey guys, Ive not much experience in this area, if you've heard of this please tell me about it. My 88 Maverick has 350000 on the clock and developed some slow oil leaks which appear to be coming from the front and rear of the engine. I thought immediately it was front and rear main seals were stuffed but one of the guys I rang for a price to do the seals said do the clutch while the gearbox is out, which make sense except the clutch is perfect, then he went on to tell me that cranks wear and at 350,000 it may be time to do something about the bottom end, especially as both seals appear to of gone at the same time. Blew me out abit because my truck runs like a charm, uses stuff all gas, rev's, idles and blasts anywhere I tell it. At 350000 do you think he's yanking my chain or is this common?

Dont worry about your crank shaft bearings they should still be good at those Km.
Definately replace the front and rear seals but look for a groove worn into the crankshaft by the rubber seal, this will be the cause of the oil leaks. This groove can be fixed using a Speedy Sleave made of stainless steel, these can be purchased from CBC Bearings.

Thanks guys, thought it may be an idea to do the clutch, it makes sence because of the expense in having to drop the box again later and it hasn't been done since 220000. It's fine now but in reality within another 100000 it will need doing again. That speedy sleeve sounds like good option if there is any groove there, so I'll allow some bucks for that if necessary.
