Erm, I cant see the rust mate. If thats the worst you can find on it I dont think you've got much to worry about.
I didnt think the Patrols had bad paint jobs, it's more to do with what they get exposed to and how often I think.
Remember the Patrols are the toughest and probably get used a lot more than other lesser 4wd's but I think mine must have had an easy life cos its still got the original 1989 factory paint aqnd no rust etc.
Sorry to gloat:ahah:

The paintwork on the GQ's is fantastic. Very few i have seen with any rust and those that do would be due to beach work.
Having said that......mine needs some removed lol.

Lol well someone needs to show me a GQ with no rust and decent paint that doesn't chip off when you sneeze near it because I haven't seen one yet. :p Looked at dozens. And I'm not talking about that rear sliding window rust either I will look past that quite happily!

Remember I'm quite picky.. For many months I toiled detailing cars to pay for my uni fees.. Nissan bodywork and paint in general is nothing to prout about (even on our 07 GU V its not that fantastic).

Seriously considering putting these plans on hold again and working towards a GU or *shock horror* an 80 series. I CANT STAND RUST!!!!!! :(

Mine has no rust at all. The reason is that its a MAVERICK!!!!! Ha Ha.
Well the mav has been well looked after before I got it and its got rustproofing all through the mav and also a heavy duty couplertec (electronic one).

My paint for is great other than the scratches and dints.

I've noticed that the GQ's don't have as good a paintjob or the same quality paint as my Maverick. Were the Mav's painted by Ford or were they all painted by Nissan? Hey I'm not knocking our beloved GQ's but I'm amazed at how good the paint looks on my Mav after 19 years. I,ve got some rust spots that I'm getting fixed, a small spot (smaller than a 5 cent piece) where the roof line meets the windscreen and some where the roofrack mounts, apart from that nothing and the majority of the last 19 years it's been kept outside.

IMO, this is an answer that only you can answer. By that I mean, if you think it is an issue then get it fixed, if not then don't worry about it. Many people have different levels of care for their vehicles, some pedantic and others don't care. Basically, if your pedantic and wish to keep the vehicle for many more years and you think it is the start of some good cancer then get it fixed.......Question only the owner can answer.....Sorry, that is my view wrt this.......I wash my Patrol weekly and polish every 3 months, many don't and think I'm crazy but that is the difference many are with the care of vehicles......Good luck.....

I thoroughly clean mine after every "outing" that gets it dirty in any way, I think that helps preserve the bodywork.
Nothing worse than salt and mud sitting in nooks and crannies everywhere for years causing corrosion.
