I've owned my 1988 GQ 4.2 auto now for about a month. If I run her for less than an hour she runs pretty good on both fuel and GAS. But like the numerous threads on here she runs like poo after that hour. I'm slowly trying to fix this and that. Here is my second battery setup as she was purchased. What a mess. The Solenoid is on the other side of the bay. Any suggestions on how to clean her up? I'm going to start removing wires and replacing them with new good wires. Any Ideas on the make and or type of coil I have in there. It says "made in the USA" on the top. Also I've never had a car with a resistor in it before and I assume that is what is next to the coil. What is that for?

Umm, what a mess, as you say. Suggest you disconnect as much as possible ASAP. You're doing right by replacing the wires, but do it carefully and look to make up a harness, sleeved in plastic is tidy. DO NOT forget the fuses. Either fit a new fuse block with a thick cable feeding it or fit in-line fuses in each cable, but these MUST be close to the battery. We don't want to be reading a post of your truck going up in smoke do we !
