I have a 94 GQ Manual and had all manner of problems dropping the transmission to access the clutch. There is very little clearance between the transmission tunnel and the bell housing so I was limited in rearward movement, in fact had to remove the transmission cradle and dropped the 'box' onto an old mattress.

Anybody had this problem before? Any ideas how to get it back in without damaging the clutch?

Thanks.

lol your keen i dont like doing patrol clutches on a hoist
the gu is worse you need to rotate the gearbox to clear the starter motor mount its hard to do on a hoist with a tranny jack not sure how u will go on the ground the other way to make it easier is install a body lift first

Hi, I changed my gearbox using a trolly jack in the shed at home and I wouldn't do it again. Did you spilt the two boxes to make it lighter? If you did put a new oil seal in the gear box before you put the transfer back on after you put the gearbox back it the car. Drop the exhaust off of all the body mounts to let the motor move down and you need to rotate the gear box to the left of the car before it will clear the firewall, push it in untill you can turn it back to the upright possition. Have fun. Paul.
