Well its been a couple of years since i upgraded the SWB for more room. Spewing that ive never been able to sleep in the LWB tho.

Has anyone come up with a platform remotely useable as an occasional double bed in the back of a GQ?

I'd like to be able to fold the 2nd row of seats down and climb in on the occasional camping trip etc. Im only 5' 11" but even with 2nd row seats taken out i dont fit...

Any pics would be gold.

thanks

Jeff

ive got a ti gq with the 3rd row of seats aswell, and i find this works well as a bed. when you fold the 2nd row of seats up, the 3rd row folds forward into the hole the 2nd row left behind. the only problem with this is that there is now a decent sized drop off from the folded third row to the floor in the rear. I went to clarke rubber and had a piece of foam cut to fit so it flattens that part out, then i throw a queen sized air mattress in (which folds up all the sides a little and makes a nice pillow) and you can snugly fit two people. :D

i sleep in mine heaps. im 6 foot blonde and like walks on the beach, wrong site. i fold the second row seats forward and made a board to level it out in the back. bought a single foam matress from clarkies and it fits perfectly. will take some photos over the weekend

Dirty Bastards! It's so I can fit a wheelbarrow in the back.

And yes, I do have curtains.

Undortunately I don't have any pics (just been through all the pics on my laptop but nothing) but I built a completely removable platfom consisting of nine legs (3 behind front seats, 3 behind rear seats and 3 at the back) high enough to clear the wheel arches, a basic frame sits on top of that with MDF panels x2 screwed to the frame. Brought a matteress from Clark rubber to go on top. This gives me storage underneath and a place to sleep when on the road, both my girlfriend and I spent over a month living in it at a campsite when we first arrived in Broome 2 years ago and never had a problem with the comfort other than the fact I'm 6'3 so need to fold the passenger seat forward every night to be comfortable. The wood cost me about $50 from bunnings and the matteress was about $100 if i remember correctly, the only thing I would have done differentely was to get a thinner matteress to have more headroom. Made the frame just narrow enough that it slides out without dismantling although it doeas require 2 people and some effort. Hope this gives you an idea of where to go I'm overseas at the moment otherwise I would sort out some pics for you.

You could play builders and contractors or something.

Or mabye even electricians & plumbers.

Could even pull off wearing a utility belt. 8)

Thanks for the replies guys. my 2nd row seats dont fold down, they fold forward against the front seats. so need to be taken out altogether. guess a suspended floor is what im going to need to build.

cheers

oh yeah, and we'll definitely need curtains :p

One of the forum members from Europe posted up pics of his GQ a while back. He'd decked the back out for sleeping & storage ( + carrying a guitar from memory.. ). It was one of the best I've seen.

Can anybody remember or find that post ?

Mine's removable in about 1 minute. Seats take about 4 minutes. Has storage underneath as it's hinged. And it is legal to remove the seats too. Want more pics?

If you've got some pics that would be great. I am considering, redoing the whole back of the car (currently have a cargo barrier in) want to have custom draws, and a makeshift removable bed.

this was my set up in my gq before i sold it.
2 big drawers in the back and 2 seperate boxes in the front.
Im around 6,2 and fit easy if you dont just move the front seats forwards.

I could take the 2 front boxs out in about 10 minutes and put the reaR seats in and still use the drawers in the back.

excuse the carpet.

Hey murrell,

Yeah thats pretty much what im after. Rear drawers that stay in all the time, and the option of removing the 2nd row seats and having extra storage/bed platform.

Cheers

there is actually only one box at the front. the second storage compartment it just a lid that swivels off the drawers.
if you understand.
cheers

More pics below. Mine is mainly for the flat floor and not storage, hence it is not the easiest to get at when full of stuff above. But I am thinking of doing a Mark II with side access.

Ahh. i like that too. simple but effective.

Will be a while (as any project i im going to do usually takes me ages to get around to) but when I build my new rear storage/sleeping system i will post in here.

Thanks

the main benifit with my system is you get a wider bed due to being over the wheel arches.

I'll be doing my GU soon as I have just bought it to replace the GQ. I'll post pics then. It'll be much the same as it's all I need.
