View Full Version : Box removal - where does it balance?
Hey fellas,
I scored the arvo off and have undone everything ready to drop the g/box out of the wagon. (TD42 5spd) Thats the easy bit....
Now does it balance on the crossmember or slightly forward of it? Ive done a clutch before on one of these but had a couple of extra hands. Even when i do get a hand, i dont want to nosedive it either end:confused: Left to right balance is easy as the crossmember is still there to hold onto.
Who here remembers???

About centre of the gear shifter hole with the crossmember off.
Engine crane through the pass. front door is the go.
Thanks for the replies fellas.....
I only have a trolley jack but i got it. The balancing point is on the cast piece that a bolt goes through directly in front of the crossmember in the centre. (The cup of the jack sat here)After uncoupling the exhaust and rotating the box a little. it came out pretty easy.
The clutch is shagged and the flywheel has bad hotspots. The air compressor decided it would not get ovet 70psi at all by the last flywheel bolt:rolleyes: (Compressor is stuffed) so the flywheel will come off when i get that fixed....

I thought it would balance just forward or just behind where you thought it would and then fall off the trolley roll a bit, knock over some stuff and then balance perfectly on the driveway, leaking oil all the way...

You forget to add sticking your leg under the box to stop it falling off the jack, underestimating its weight and spending the afternoon in Hospital with a broken foot !

wait until you go to put it back, it falls off the jack, while you are trying to put that first bolt in. narowly missing your head (by mms) so you empty your wallet out of shear fear for someone else to help you do it

HA that sounds familiar, changed clutch in youngest sons wagon, while added bonus of having it on the hoist and a cheap trans jack I forgot to duck when walking out from under hoist after picking myself of the floor and 5 stitches and a small chip of bone removed, wallet emptied out of shear fear of the missus!!!!
ALL DONE:D
I think i did well for a one man show. Got a bit worried when it went straight in though... Normally i expect some dramas but not this time...
