Hi all
Im thinking about taking up my carpets and refitting underlay to the floor and firewall to make the beast a little less noisy. Clarke rubber has a standard auto underlay but does any one know of any gun product that would do a better job

Dynamat works really well, but is expensive. Benefit is that it is relativly thin comared other products and offers good results. Car stereo guys use it in their cars. Cheers, cuzza

M8, I put a layer of bitumen soundproofing down then topped it off with a layer of edead from this ebay site: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/eDead-Sound-Deadener-Proof-Dampener-30-SQ-Feet_W0QQitemZ220312150347QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Ca r_Parts_Accessories?hash=item220312150347&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Also have 2 layers of edead in doors plus a layer of bitumen. It's quite a bit quieter. Until I crank up my new stereo, that is...

This site is very useful too. http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/forums/index.php?showtopic=50295

I was going to do this when I first got my GQ 4 years ago, now it sounds sweet. Perhaps the car has made me deaf. I don't know if I'm dreaming but I blocked the EGR valve a while ago and the car seems to run quieter then again I may be going deaf. What was that??

Hey Marcus,
I went to a foam and rubber store and bought some 'formshield', which is a 10mm thick non-porous firm grey self-adhesive foam with a foil layer. I used this through the front of the cab back to the rear seats. Two layers on the firewall.

The results were nothing short of amazing! The engine noise has been dramatically reduced. I used to run the stereo on 21-23 on the highway, now it's sits on 15-16. We don't have to shout at each other anymore, you can hear the other person at talking level.

Make sure you get the self adhesive stuff, as it comes in non-adhesive which would be more stuffing around.

I would recommend this to anyone.

But, the doors are next. Now you can hear all the noise coming through the doors.

Good luck.

Jerb

Hey Thanks all,
There's some mighty fine advice there, well worth looking in to. I just got back from a work trip in a 4000 k old Commodore Ute, I thought the GQ had a lot of highway noise until now, this things (holden ute) wind noise at 110 kph is almost unbearable, but a tad faster than the mighty TD42.
Arr Jerb, I thought me and the missus didnt have to shout at each other anymore either, but I dont think the cars got anything to do with it.
Anyway, when the guys fitted the turbo the other day they must have dislodged the large rubber grommet on the passenger firewall which gave me the impression that this turbo made my car sound like a freight train, however since I have repositioned it I am now back to quite mode again.
I will look into all this stuff its all good advice
Cheers
