Can anyone tell me why I have lights in the rear quarter when they don't work, this just seems stupid to me.

Because they moved them down to the bumper for ADR's in the early 90's, and just blanked out some of the pillar lights

I have a 95 GQ and I broke one of the rear lights - only the reverse lights work.
I paid $165 (trade) for a new one. I now realise I should have bought 2 of the 3 lampversions which I can now get for $35 each - new!
Think I will get them at that price anyway but I guess I have to retain the ones in the rear bar for legality.
I wouls like to have a round tube rear bar without lights but I guess not legal for a 95?

The issue is the rear mounted spare wheel. The ADR's say that you have to be able to see the tailights from such and such a side angle and the wheel blocks off the view, especially from the left if you want to see the right hand light.

There's no reason why you can't run both sets of lights, IMO - that'd give you plenty of visibility from the rear.

Oddly enough, my 89 doesn't have the bumper mounted lights - the ADR's must have changed after it was made...

Has anyone fitted the later model rear lights. ie the GU rear lights.

You see on youtube all the boys in dubi run the latter model lights.

We had a dig at installing a set to a SWB maverick though alot of chopping is required with little success.

Anyone done it?

So I guess I just can't get rid of the rear bar and fit the other lights without becoming illegal, unless i rig up some sort of led lights in a new bar or something, more ideas to play at.

How about fitting aftermarket leds up high - above the spare wheel height.
