This was the 3.0 litre patrol released in 1990 which ran the 3.0 litre Nissan engine in which was used extensively in the Commodore VL range in both naturally aspirated & Turbo versions.

Nissan also employed the Nissan 300zx turbo gearbox for this model. The example shown above, had covered 300,000 klm’s before being sold and upgraded.

Hi,
Mate is that a long story.....

I used to have WILES as a number plate until this guy started talking to me in the food court in Castle Hill one day.

He said that he had seen me for years driving different vehicles, and knew every time I bought a new one (I had the plates for about 10 years) and it sort of freaked me out a bit

He knew where I lived, how many people were in my family and various other things which you don't expect people to notice. I had them on my BMW & Mercedes Company vehicles when I worked at Channel 9, as well as he also knew the position I held there as well…

I decided to get rid of the plates, as if this was only one person whom which knew some of my life, how many others do as well.

Wilesy,
don't care what anyone says the GQ is a good lookin box and backs it up offroad.
Only thing better is a MAV, lol, but I'm totally biased. :)

Yeah,

I agree with how good they look. The one in the picture above was pretty special as some low life ran a 2 bob bit down the side once, & I had the entire truck re-sprayed in pearl Blue at a cost of over $5K

I really loved that truck. The entire interior was done out in Recaro & Momo.....a sound system which would shame many young ones today, with a mobile phone intergrated, with front and roof consoles with all of the radio equipment. PIAA 80 series lights & Inserts, ARB front, sides and rear bar.

Extractors & a full stainless steel 2 and a half pipe, with long range tanks & full OME suspension, as well as colour coded Challenger alloy 8" wheels.

I had it for 3 years, did nearly 300,000 klm's and paid new $29,990 and got back $30K on a new one 8)

I only picked up mine a year ago, totally stock and immaculate, old guy owner with every service done, had 280k on it then 322k now.
I sctrached mine a bit now but my big worry is rust livin 50 feet from the ocean.
Not much done yet, just 3"lift, rancho 9000's, tinted, 32 12.5 BFG's on 15 by 8's, inside is still like new almost.
So much on the wishlist too many kids to feed, lol.
Exhaust is next week or so.

I couldn't afford the 4.2 when I bought mine, I had to settle for the 3.0 litre.

Never regretted it for a minute.

That is freaky. ...but at least he came forward eventually.

What were the 3.0L like power wise?

I suppose at least they wouldnt use as much fuel as the 4.2L

I wouldn't bet on it. I know someone with the 3.0 and it doesn't have that much go and uses similar amounts of fuel.

Certainly my 4.5 will whip it any day of the week....

I have owned both engine config's and found that they both used pretty much the same amount of fuel as you had to push the 3.0 somewhat.

The only difference in the power I found was when towing, the 3.0 had pretty long legs which you constantly had to use the gearbox intensively to keep up the pace.

Having said all of that, it handled quite a bit better than the 4.2 as a couple of hundred kilos up the front end made it a very good handler & the gearbox which was matched was as smooth as any I have ever driven.

Apart from the gearbox & engine, the rest was identical to the 4.2 which with the lighter weight, made brakes last much, much longer.

I remember getting over 90k out of a set of front pads, where as the 4.2 all I could get was 50k out of a set.

 You guys sound like you might be able to help me!
I have an imaculate 1993 LWB with the RB30 and 5 speed option.
after 250,000 the gearbox is poping out of 3rd and fourth gear. I am aware that the box is the same as the VL, skyline and 300ZX ones but do you know which model I should be looking for:
vl turbo box or non turbo etc.
would the vl box have a model number that could identify it as the same one in my patrol?
thanks
