Had a look at a GQ LWB for 9K, was diesel, looked good for the dollars, though it had rear drum brakes.......
I want one with all 4 wheels, disks.
How common are the drum models, and wat model exactly are they? so i know what to avoid.

As a totally un-ed-umacated guess I think that all Mavrick's and pre '93 models have drums on the rear

I am not admitting that I may be wrong only a little mistaken

I have no idea about which models, but the 88 workshop manual has details on both discs & drums - but no info on the factory locker.. which leads me to believe there must be some 88 models floating around with discs but no lockers (although they may be overseas somewhere  )

my 89 st had rear discs and BIL's 90 dx had drums.

not 100% sure but i think the housings are the same so a slightly bent one may be salvageable for the internals and discs [and cheap]

only DX patrol had drums.
ST, Ti, and all mavericks had disks.

Yeah I guess so. I just saw an ad in the trading post for front and rear gq diffs complete disc to disc with 4.11 gears for 2000. Interesting, I might stick with the drums for a little while yet.

From what i've seen the early (88 and 89???) DX patrols (SWB and LWB) had drums at the rear, all others had discs, i think the DX changed to disc around the 90's. I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to mav's.

you have to change the master cylinder as well as they are different between drum and disc models.

My ute (was an 89 model ST petrol wagon) has discs and my wagon 89 DX diesel has drums. Both are patrols.
