I have just brought a 4door low roof GQ safari (24v) for $800NZ, it has a SAFARI turbo kit on it (hence buying it). anyway my plan is to put the turbo kit on my Daily safari and convert this one back to N/A and try make some money off it. BUT it is an auto and seems to go from first gear to third, not only that but it takes ages for it to change (rev wise) My question is, Is the tranny rooted or could it be eletrical?

Doesn't sound good, Take it to a transmission place who knows a bit about Patrol auto's. Here in Oz there is only a select amount know anything about them. Good luck with it.

disconnect the ECU and see if it does the same.

I had somewhat the same issue when we first got our GQ auto (24v) TD42. It would shift gears at abt 3,000rpm waaaaay too long.
It turned out to be the TPS setting on the injection pump. What was at fault was the part on the pump that actually turned the TPS. (in the middle of the throttle cable linkage) It was not the TPS itself. It was set way to retard that the TPS never worked or got into range.
we just loosened it up and re-set it and instant shifting. Then we fine tuned it with the tps adjustment slots
goodluck!

Iv played around with the TPS, i have got it shifting at an acceptible rpm, but it skips 2nd. seems like there is some serious probs with it. however it shifts smoothly. i will do a fluid change just on the off chance that helps. cant expect to much from an $800 truck i guess!

Hi if i were you i would consider pulling the pan of replace the filter and put a new gasket on, then new oil if that dosent work you may have a sticking valve in your valve body if thats the case after you have road tested it and let it cool down you could pull the valve body out and have someone with transmission knowledge have a look at the valves . also exchange valvebodies are available that have been improved with better shifts and oil flows, you will need to flush your torque convertor when you change oil as well , if thats all too much for you to handle see an auto transmission specialist the gearboxes internally are very strong and seldom cause trouble it s either torque convertors that fail and leave burnt offerings in the filter then the valve bodies get rubbish in them and start to stick and then you get overheating transmissions best of luck limoman
