I've seen a lot of GQ's out there. All having the middle seats folding the back rest part down to the actual seat.
Assuming the area behind were the third row of seats or whatever else is normally put isnt there. and it is just a flat surface. These middle seats bulge up
My mates GQ Middle seats fold a second time to be completely flush with the "flatness" of the back. so its like one nice, flat area perfect for a large mattress. ^_^
He doesn't know were they came from as they were there when he brought the beast. Ive looked around, but nothing. Ive very eager to find one for myself if anyone can point me in the right direction.

.. mine fold almost compteltly flat, they are just stock though. i just take off the head rests and fold the back section down. it sits up maybe an inch at the far end.

It may just be the seats they released in the later model GQ's.
Mine being a 88, the seat sits a good 150mm from the back surface.
Not sure how clear it is to see in that pic, since the back seats are blocking the view of the floor. lol.
But basically when you look under the seat, there is a frame that wont budge. i think with these different seats. they fold a second time, into the frame, while mine has just the one fold.

As far as I know all the 7 seat wagons have the split folding seats like in your pic.
there is a strap you pull to fold the seat a second time up against the front seats.
you can then fold the 3rd row and flip it 180 degrees into the hole giving an ok load area while still having all seats still in the car.
Even with the 3rd row removed compleatly and the 2nd row folded up against the front seats it leaves a very un-even floor not suited to sleeping without packing or building a false floor. Even then it is to short without removing the 2nd row of seats as well.
Base model 5 or 6 seaters with the 2nd row bench seat may only fold as you say. Ive never had a close look at one.

Ill try and grab a pic of my mates rig.
I just cant picture how his is compared to mine. its like his doesnt have that dip in it.. no false floors either. ill check it out when i see him next.

its not a short wheel base is it? mine looks like yours.. there is a dip, nothing major. could easy put a mattress over the top.
your mate might have the base model bench seat. doesn't split, just folds as one and offers what is very close to a flat floor.

How flat do you want it? My setup fits a double foam mattress.

Yeah, thats how his goes. completly flat all the way along. is that your seats folded down or is there a false floor?

Seats out and a false floor. During the week I can fit anything for work, even a wheelbarrow fits. Weekenders fits me, esky and stuff easily. Under false floor is not the most accessable, but not what I wanted if for.

Mine has the bench seat from 5 seater 1989 model, it folds up way better than the later split fold seats. still has a bit of a hollow though. The photo above looks great. lots of space to use.
