hi just bought a 89 xlt mav tb42 5 speed .
has anyone got any suggestions for suspension, driving lights, engine mods. as i got it for 3,000 and have some money left for some mods

It all comes down to what you want to do with it, but....
My personal recomendations (basically what I have on my truck):
Good aftermarket suspension set up....I like the 9 stage adjustable tough dogs
Decent off road rubber, either A/T or M/T
After market fuel filter if you are doing much touring
Cargo barrier for safety.
But there's a million options, most of them expensive and you just have to decide what matters to you most.

Personally I wouldn't go any higher than a 3 inch lift on a shorty, and make sure that you get springs that are made for a shorty! there is a big difference in spring rates between LWB and SWB, some so called experts will sell you LWB springs simply because they don't know there's a difference.
Lovells make a good duel rate 3 inch lift spring for shortys and I'd look at EFS or Dobinson shocks, they work well and are reasonably priced.
