Hey guys I just signed up recently after searching in a few hundred pages or so of threads.

I don't own a 4wd but have a few questions about the TB42 motor that you guys may be able to help me with.

1. Are the TB42 engine mounts similar to the Rb30?

2. I know the bore and stroke of the TB42 is 96x96, can anyone tell me if the rb30 head will fit on a TB42 block length and width wise? Like is it just the bore and stroke that is different, or is the block longer than an rb30 block as well?

I know none of the water/oil galleries will line up but I just want to know if the TB42 has any similarities to the rb30 block, and what exactly they are.

3. Is the gearbox bolt pattern on a TB42 the same as an RB30? Im guessing no on this one.

Reason why I ask this is because I want to build a twin cam TB42 motor using an R33 head and with modified combustion chambers. I have already built an rb30de but I have a spare twin cam head and can get a TB42 motor for cheap.

Cheers all.

Well here is an attempt to answer the questions

1) The engine mounts are totally different between TB42 and RB30

2) No the head is totally different, the TB42 is a Overhead Valve with mechanical lifters, the RB30 is Hydrolic lifters, totally different setup.

3) The Gearbox bolt patern is also different as the TB42 uses a totally different transmition to the RB30. the RB30 transmition is found in the RD28T and ZD30 series patrols, the engine in the TB42 also is found in the TD42, TB45E patrols.
