Hi im new to all things diesel and my GQ 4.2 auto is blowing a fair bit of diesel smoke i service my 4x4 every 5000 with good oil but still the same. so i was thinking about taking it a diesel specialist to find out the prob but i do not want to walk in not knowing about what the prob mybe:oops: so any help wold be fantastic..
Also i was thinking about getting a 2" lift with EFS suspension, has anyone used them or know if its good gear?
thanx guys
ok well black smoke in a diesel is normal but not an excessive amount
2 problems can cause this
1) Too rich a fuel mix. This is when the diesel pump is opened up too much, simple adjustment for that
2) Diesel injectors need servicing
White smoke means too lean a mixture, black is too rich from memory
have a Diesel guy look at it, they will be able to tell if the mixture is too rich

Try injector cleaner - my 4.2 used to blow increasing smoke until I gave it a drink of cleaner, whereupon it would clear up for quite a while. I fixed the problem permanently by putting a turbo on....

hey black smokes mean it is not burning all the fuel because there is either to much fuel or the injectors are not atomising the fuel right. try putting an injectore cleaner through it if that doesnt work then you may need a injector service (dont try this at home it can be very painfull and expensive)
white smoke= water in bore
blue smoke= burning oil
hope that helps

Excessive black smoking is either due to too much fuel, insufficient atomisation of the fuel or not enough air to burn the fuel, so check and replace your air filter too.
Injector cleaner is not a permanent solution. If the injectors have done a bit of work, then a bottle of cleaner isn't going to do anything to fix an injector nozzle which has eroded beyond the point of no return and should be replaced.

Can also be from a dirty air cleaner. Remove the air cleaner and see how it goes.
I recently changed my exhaust to discharge out the side rather then the rear cause I was getting soot all over my boat. I could see now black smoke billowing out the exhaust. I refer to my gregory's manual. Changing the air filter has greatly reduced the black somke.
I will try some injector cleaner as well. Hopefully problem solved.

As far a suspension lift I use king springs. I think they also make the springs for most of the well known aftermarket suspension packages anyhow and it is up to you as far as shocks go. I really depends on what you what to do with your vehicle and how much you want to spend.

Hi, take it to a diesel guy to help out. I just took mine to "Chapmans" at Cooroy and now it runs like a dream. 117.5HP and 750 lb/ft running 7 pounds of boost on 285/75/16 tyres. I would recommend this to everybody, the car runs great and the service there was fantastic.
