Hi all,
Was having a look under the maverick (4.2petrol carby) today as i was changing the rear diff oil, and i noticed something that looks like a slave cylinder behind the fuel tank with a bracket and big spring attached to it. At first i thought it had something to do with the brakes but i followed the brake lines and they dont go through it.
Can anyone tell me what it is and does, because there was too much dry mud falling into my eyes while i was trying to figure it out and i could nt see a damn thing !!!
Cheers

As you can see in both pics, the item in question is in the top centre of the pics.
I had another good look, and realised it is part of the rear brakes. One of the 3 lines goes up on top of the fuel tank and comes back down to the thing on the bottom left of the pics which then goes to the brake callipers (left, right).
My other question now is why are there another 2 not 1 line going into the slave cylinder? Is it just to have more pressure to cope with the weight of the truck?
And by the way, the damn thing looks like its leaking too.:headwall:
Thanks
Jeremy

Brake byass valve/cyclinder ;) Is also known as a load sensing valve. It senses how much weight the vehicle is carrying (cargo, passengers, etc) and increases the amount of brake fluid pressure to allow for the extra load. The spring goes to the rear diff to sense how much the springs are compressed which tells it how much extra weight you are carrying.

can the thing be re kitted? or does it have to be replaced, is it like a slave cyl inside (bore, piston, seals etc)??
Thanks for the quick replies guys!

To be honest I have never had one apart. Infact from memory (short of going out in the dark to check on one of my GQ's) they are a sealed unit and you can't dismantle them.

while on this topic, do u have 2 adjust the load sensing valve in any way or form once u have done a spring or body lift?
