View Full Version : Cooling System Pressurising?????

G'Day all

Can anyone tell me how much pressure they have in the cooling system of their TB42 Carbie? Checked mine at start up yesterday and, when hot, hoses were quite pressurised (pretty hard, could push in with thumb pressure about 5cm).

Just curious as I saw traces of what looks like coolant which has gone out of the overflow. And Spark Plugs have a coating of what looks like bulldust over them!

It's weird because there are no bubbles in the Radiator which would suggest the system is pressurising! I hope it's not a head issue as I thought I fixed that!

The usual...is it using any water???? the bull dust on plugs sounds a bit ominous as it could be rust.

The son-in-law's crumpledoor had a cracked head leaking small amounts of water into 2 pistons....no bubbles in the radiator...no water in oil....a bit of oil in water and it used water and the plugs were rusty. Ran for 5 years like that.....didn't get any worse....until well...it eventually let go big time...thats when we found the head crack...but it had nothing to do with the failure...lack of oil did that real well.

Anyway I hope its not head probs for your sake.

Nope, not using water.

Found out that the "Bulldust" coloured stuff is most likely the Fuel Additive. I put Fuel Doctor in the Petrol to keep the impurities out of the Carbie. Ran it on petrol for most of the weekend so that's what it probably is!

The pressure thing though has me stumped a bit! :) Guess I will keep an eye on it and see if any water gets pumped through the Overflow.
