Hey guys well my Viscous Clutch fan has packed in and is constantly locked on and is very annoying as my powers reduced from it pushing all the fans weight and pulling air and also its so bloody loud! it never used to engage before. and has never overheated.. But after a Hot spell its engaged and not let go..
My Question is, has anyone got any idea what i should do to fix it? can you pull them apart and oil them? Or should i just rip it out and replace with a thermo fan?
My TB has never overheated.. only ever 1/2 on a 42*C day.. and usually 1/4-1/3 on daily drives.
Thought ide add i dont treat my TB42 easy.. im a realllly heavy right foot and shes still kicking strong.
Cheers

ok, well i took the clutch out in 5mins.. it was stiff but still turning.. So i sprayed some of that supercrap/ cheap as **** engine degreaser on it.. and it free'd up but not fully. so i got a bucket and filled it enough to cover the whole clutch in degreaser and a mix of penetrene and wd40 and it freed up in 5mins.. wont freely turn by hand but turns over with not much force.. with it back in the car and the blades back on it span a couple of turns b4 halting again.
SO 2morrows the test..
Hope it worked.

isnt the spring on the front of the hub what controls when the clutch engages or not
when the spring heats up it opens up a bit and engages the clutch and when the air flowing through the radiator is cool enough the spring moves back and stops the fan from being locked
is the spring rusty or full of crap

yes the springs rusted and was completely packed with crap.. as i srpayed the first time it loosened all of it up. then the soaking helped after.. ill let you know how it turned out.
