A little about the chariot:

• 1989 Ford Maverick SWB
• Dual Fuel (Impco carbie system)
• Megalift 3" suspension kit with detachable sway bars and in car kit for tough dogs
• Extractors & 2 ¼"exhaustARB air lockers & compressor
• Gearmaster 85% reduction low range kit
• 33" Cooper ST's
• Slotted rotors
• Snorkel & custom air box
• UHF & AM CB radio's in roof console
• Lightforce x4 & bastard light
• Custom fuel tank with bash plates for both LPG & fuel tanks
• mp3 player & speakers
• Dual battery system (solenoid)
• Charging system for WAECO fridge & THUMPER 3rd battery
• Rear storage box
• Alloy bullbar & steps
• Towbar
• Roof racks
• All terrain camper trailer with matching tyres/wheeltrack

The tale begins in January 2006 when the shortie was barely making it to the tracks let alone back home. It was suffering slack compression, a stretched timing chain and fuel/ignition issues. The faulty piranha electronic ignition was replaced with standard points ignition and the dizzy and carbie rebuilt, which contributed little to solving the problem of erratic timing, poor starting/running and sudden loss of power.

In February 2006 I decided to do a 383 stroker Chevy V8 conversion after being offered a good deal from a local repairer. It is now a whole year later and almost nothing has been done. I have just collected the vehicle in pieces under a court order and it's all sitting in my shed in Bundanoon NSW. It is unregistered and the engine is on a pallet. I am now looking for a reputable repairer.

My main aim now is to get the vehicle back on the road ASAP. This would involve the following:

• Fully recondition/remanufacture TB42 to TB42e (EFI) specifications with HM GEM or similar company. New engine to be warranted, LPG compatible and with quality valves, porting/polishing and towing cam. Install onto original mounts.
• Install EFI manifold and create ability to run two fuel maps (1 for petrol and 1 for LPG) when the switch is flicked. EFI computer/s to be mounted in roof console.
• Reinstall existing auxillary fuel tank including wiring and filler plumbing (plumbing to counter filling/surging issues) and fit new bash plate.
• Restamp original LPG tank or fit new if required. Check over & certify entire LPG installation.
• Rewire entire vehicle if required and fit fuses in central location.
• Fit new radiator and thermo fan (scrap original engine fan). Switch to be on/off/auto. New hoses where required.
• Service and refit air conditioning and power steering.
• Refit existing airbox or make new airbox from snorkel to filter. "Hiclone" or "Turbonator" desirable to increase airflow.
• Refit clutch and bellhousing.
• Change all gearbox, transfer & diff oils.
• Fit new boss kit and/or steering wheel to overcome hand hitting indicator, fit horn button and get horn working.
• Fit new starter motor.
• Repair/replace faulty passenger seat and fit new drivers seat eg stratos, recaro with suspension frame.
• Check operation of CB radios, fit new AM aerial.
• 2 new batteries.
• Fit new heavy duty alternator or service existing.
• Extend diff breathers to high in engine bay, fit fuel filters at end of line.
• Strip and paint engine bay, check for other rust & repair as required.
• Replace any worn body, chassis, window and door rubbers, including new side rear window frames and front window guides.
• Window tint.
• Install "flashlube" dripper.
• Fit new mp3/CD head unit (anti skip), amp, subwoofer and 4 speakers.
• Any other works required for roadworthy reasons or reliability.
• Engineers certification if required, blue slip, pink slip and reregister vehicle.

I was hoping to get some ideas on who might be interested in carrying out the work or some advice from someone who has done it before. I am also open to the idea of rebuilding the carbie engine depending on how good the tuning between gas and petrol can get. I obviously need an experienced enthusiast who is keen and ready for the work and won't just take money from me and do nothing for a year (can you tell I'm bitter - how would you feel having a fully insured vehicle and camper trailer off the road for a year). I am after quotes and reasonable timeframes for the above work to be completed before I make a decision on a new repairer.
