hi all, after some ideas for mounting a fire extinguisher in a LWB GQ. Where have you put yours? I thought I found a nice little posi down on side of driver seats mount, but I've got a large'ist bottle (1kg), doesnt look like it would fit with door closed. I reacon the preferable location is near driver/front of cabin, but what do you think???
thanks for all input...

Old thread but I'm in the same boat (SS GQanic) and looking for a place to mount my extinguisher. Where do you who carry extinguishers mount them?

Mine is mounted at the very top of cargo barrier above the middle set (on the front side of the barrier). It doesn't effect rear vision, is not in the way even if car has 5 people in it and as I said is on the front side of barrier so you can still access it very quickly and easily

Wherever you put it use good quality bolts and large diameter washers.
We've had a few come adrift at work because they were mounted with tek screws. Imagine being hit with 1.5kg of steel at 80 km/hr. It'd do more damage than a sledgehammer.
If the holder isn't CAMS approved don't buy it.
I have a smaller one that is mounted crosswise in front of the driver's seat. It does interfere with the seat going all the way forward for shorter drivers. If you put it 2 inches forward of the seat mount it should be ok.

I just mounted mine today, I removed the pastic trim from infront of the passengers seat, put in a piece of alluminium angle and mounted staight to it. When I sell and if I want to keep it, simply remove and replace the trim, no holes, no carpet squashed - beautiful!
It slides with the seat, not sure how it would go with mechanical seats, mine are electric.

Mine use to sit between the consol and the gear stick, the handbrake lever just rests on it .never moved in two years of running around the high country. It can be accessed from anywhere in the car with ease.

Thanks Stlman and others.
I have an autobox so my area in front of the center dash is limited. Still fishing about for a location that I like and will work. But the safety tips have really sunk in. Thanks all

The most important time to have a Fire extinguisher is when you are trapped in your vehicle after an accident and the car bursts into fire.
Whatever you do make sure you mount it within reach of the driver.
Imagine if you became stuck after and accident and your vehicle burst into flame, then you realised that your extinguisher was mounted on your cargo barrier!

I bought a 2kg one the other week without thinking where the hell I was going to put it. Will probably have to go for the top of the passenger foot well like mentioned earlier.

just dont expect those small extinguishers to do much, they are more for looks than much else.

I have a 1kg mounted between the gearshift and the centre console. I have another two 1kg mounted in the back on the jack space cover plate. The two are in the back as I have the back set up to live out of and use white spirits to cook with.
