wo questions regarding reverse on a gq.
I read that reverse gear is synchromeshed. What does that mean as I understand most vehicles dont have synchromesh on reverse?

Also my friends' gq ute have a beeping sound (like a truck) when reversing. Should the wagon have that too? Mine doesnt

The beeper is not a standard item (as far as I know) but can be fitted by an auto-sparky. For a vehicle that size there is really no need for it.

It is simply a small beeper wired up to the reverse lights so that it beeps when you put it in reverse. You could do it yourself for about $20 if you really wanted to. Then again you could just not. Its a Patrol not a Freightliner. :)

reverse is a straight cut gear afaik
no synchro on it try and jam it in when moveing and it will grind.

wasnt 1 of the many selling points of the (then new) GQ patrol double synchro cones on 1st & 2nd (for easier changes) & synchro on reverse?

Well, in a "normal" manual, if you're rolling forward & try 2 get into reverse it'll grate (unless its my old MQ which seemed to have such a "well worn" gearbox that it would slide into reverse while rollin...), but try that in a GQ - it'll go in. Good for rollin back & forth in the bottom of a bog hole!

Yep Synchro on reverese was quite a marketable feature back in 88 - the bog rocking was one of the main reasons given for it back then
