Default Converted td42t manual vs 04 zd30 auto

Ok so started looking at another patrol today

So far 2 options
A 2004 zd30 wagon auto.
150k on clock stock as a rock.
Had dash just replaced and through dealer.
Up point minimum 4k trade in.....winning for a 1k corolla.
But means 16k loan....possible bit less if i use some savings

Vs

98 rd28 converted to a td42t.
Manual.
Lift tyres barwirk lights etc all fitted.
But it is older and bit rougher.
But reckon i could end up only be out of pocket max 10k with using some savings.

Chatted to couple mates from here both recommendong the td42......if its a clean conversion.

But in all honesty whats the layer zd30s like.
Towing
Fuel economy
Longetivity........we all know them as the grenade....but seems there are still many still chugging along.

Be nice to have bit newer nicer car.

Keeping old gq as play toy so only really basic duties for gu and family trips.

And yes been doing research on here too.

Biggest concerns really are
Zd30 "grenade" but research shows 2004 and onwards are alot less prone to this....from what i read
Auto transmission?? Particularly fuel economy.
Power when towing?? Only really soft floor camper but yeah.

The td42t being a conversion......and possible dramas that could go with that.
Td been set up and used already so more chance of worn out parts that will need fixing sooner.
And will admit rougher feel cosmetically.

I'd say td. You already know a fair bit about the motor so why step into the unknown.

Just take your time and clean her up a little. Sell the gq, no point having two regos for the same car.

Depends how tidy the conversion is I guess, but I'm always going to choose the td over the zd, but with lift/tyres/barwork etc you're going to save yourself alot already.

Td was bit rough cosmetically
And few little things with conversion i didnt really like how it was done.

Decided to leave both for now but the 04 zd30 is little tempting still after extensive research last night inthe zd30 sticky section

But bigger loan is my main worry

Was just way couple little bits done.

Main bit was the oil feed line on sump was in place with that metal putty stuff and reckon needed new sump maybe....

Then was just bit rough inside with little bits done inside.

When you said 04 I was hoping it was a series 4.

Series 3's are always good. I've also recently purchased an 03 wagon myself. Buttttttt the motor grenaded which is why I bought it.

Hopefully you don't have any issues.

Had looked at a S4 04 one too.
But stock and they wanted 20k for it.

Hoping since this seems to have right mods and recently rebuilt should be right at least for few years

thats insane pricing for a zd30... can get a series 4 in good condition and running for like 10-12 pretty regularly.
