Flicking through the latest 4wd Action mag and 4wd Systems has advertised a top mount kit for GU TD42's that looks very similar to Cross Country for $1195.
Comes with scoop, fan, intercooler and all piping/clamps etc. Looks like a pretty good deal!
Can't find it on there web site but has anyone bought and fitted one of these kits?
Pretty interested......a lot cheaper than CC
Yeh i found the add & website just Google 4wd systems. No core size or specs for the td42t, but it looked to me like a 600x300x75 or at least a 500. Worth a phone call. 4wd systems have been around for a while so they would warranty all there products. It's about time a company offered a reasonably priced intercooler kit having said that it's probably made overseas.
No pic's of the td42 top mount on their website, so these came from the magazine add. A good price i think, I'm not sure if the tanks are cast aluminum. Some cast aluminum tanks are thick like factory oem and are prone to heat soak so they'll have trouble to disparate the heat.
We need to get the" custom intercooler ideas? " thread going again. We all have to have a good cooler to make decent power and i believe people shouldn't have to pay $2200 for a kit. There must be heaps of people on this forum who have made some intercooler setups. So show us your coolers!
Yeh, looks almost identical. What's the similar HPD kit worth? 4wd systems might be just retailing them for them. I've seen several companies selling HPD kits.
HPD sell the 450x300 version for $1750
It wouldn't surprise me if they are old stock HPD kits now that HPD make and sell a 500 x 400 x 76mm kit
IF so, $1195 will be a 280x240x76 upgrade for factory inter cooled models were as the $1395 will get you the 450x300x76 kit shown with mounts and bonnet scoop. I could be wrong but if someone is keen on one all they they have to do is ring up and find out.
I bought a 600x300 awhile back and was going to front mount it but now im thinking of going top mount after looking at how they are mounted.
Worm gear clamps are pretty dodgy for intercooler piping. They might hold, they might not. With 8 clamps in a kit, you might you might manage to save $ 30ish by going with worm gear clamps over t-bolt clamps (and ideally spring loaded t-bolt clamps on the hot side). For kits that cost $ 1000 - 2000, that seems penny wise and pound foolish, to me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm going through the process of acquiring intercooling components and fitting them up. I'm discovering that there is tremendous value to the convenience of getting a kit that you can simply bolt right right up, rather than all of the fussing about with fabricating your own set up (even if you can source equivalent components for less than half the cost of a kit). It just strikes me odd that if you are going to pay a premium for the convenience and R&D expertise of a kit, then proper components should be provided.
I think it comes down to how much boost you plan on running and what the hose is made of, Factory turbos cars have been using worm clamps for years and if there was a problem they still wouldn't be using them.
Ah I mis read, thinking wtf are 'worn' clamps..
All good, that is a well priced kit. I built my own front mount pwr 600/300 set up, a lot of friggin around but only cost about $600 with a second hand cooler.
