Default Do any of you know anything about the UD series engines?

Hit and a miss for me, I dont think the UD engines ever came to north america. While the namesake implies UD trucks, as far as I can tell no UD truck came with the UD engine, at least within the past 20 years, I cant find anything else before that.

So would anyone know anything about the UD engines, or is this just a wild goose chase?

Thanks.

Was the SD33 considered a UD engine - the International scouts had them I think?

No it was not. I found some information on another forum by asking around.

Apparetly the UD engines came in the first UD trucks, when or how long ago that was I dont know.

These are the UD engines.
NISSAN UD3 Engine In Line 3 Cylinder Water Cooled Diesel
NISSAN UD4 Engine In Line 4 Cylinder Water Cooled Diesel
NISSAN UD5 Engine In Line 5 Cylinder Water Cooled Diesel
NISSAN UD6 Engine In Line 6 Cylinder Water Cooled Diesel
NISSAN UD8 Engine V8 Cylinder Water Cooled Diesel
NISSAN UD12 Engine V12 Cylinder Water Cooled Diesel

I still have no clue what displacements they are or if any were turbo charged, though at this point Im tired of persuing this red herring.

Well, given as how none ever made it to the US(seeing a trend here ) Im having a hard time finding anything about them.

At this point its mostly curiosity.......

Ok, so the UD12 is a V12 engine, what size it is? ever come in a turbo application? Valves? Power rating/torque?

Im mostly just curious because its something of a mystery when I just cant find information on it, drives me nuts when I know the engine exists, but I cant find information on it.

No, not quite, a UD12 twinturbocharged, shipped to the US, and then put into a Jeep.

thats what I was thinking. (we have so very few diesels in the US, and I dont think a 1.8TDI VW engine has any business in my Jeep).

Ha, I have never some across so many people who said "mate" before!

I dont know about you, but when using google.com.au and I search for UD12 engine, I get nothing probative.

Either I dont know how to search(possibly), or there is not much information on the engine out there.

EDIT: Speeling mistake.
EDIT2: Still didn't get it right.

Sir Sam
"Matey" (just for you) This site will help you,
http://www.kortai.com/pr_html/nissan.htm

I have played with UD motors mainly in marine. But my friend anything in the UD6 and bigger will weight more than your jeep, i Know the UD12 very well it 15 litres and weights over 2 ton it would not fit in any 1 tonner or jeep i know.

Do a search using NISSAN UD it is full of info on these engines. Also you are better off with a Cummins they have more of everything.

Yeah i'm pretty sure all the Japanese V8/V12/etc were all 15+ltrs as oldmav said. I've seen 18ltr ones too.

I figured the UD engines were more likely a marine application. I was hoping the UD8 was more along the lines of a 6L. This was mostly an exercise in curiosity, I still think the ZD engine is the best option for me.

Thanks everyone for the help and information!
