Craps on about understanding the "true" word of Islam and how they plan on praising the Prophet Muhammad on his day of birth.

we have recently become citizens of Australia by choice.

As apposed to what? I can't recall anyone in Aus ever forcing someone to become a citizen?

As this is an Islamic event modest dressing would be greatly appreciated and there will be separate seating arrangements for males and females.

Right, so that is really gonna bring Islamics and non-Izzies/Mozzies together? HAHA, I don't even think my missus would be allowed in unless I allow her to and escort her there. But then again, why should she even request that I take her, she has no say in the matter, right?

I think it's great that the Muslim community is reaching out to tge wider community. Isn't transparency the thing that will help acceptance?

Sure, some of the rites are a bit weird, but if you don't want to go, don't.

I'd go if i was a local.

Well said Mic! 100% agree. Whilst I'm not religious, despite being brought up Methodist/Uniting Church going to church every Sunday and Sunday School as a kid, religion interests me and some REAL INFORMATION regarding Islam would be a great help and contribution to the debate.

I took a high school group out to the mosque at darra for a cultural talk on islam and i must say i found it very interesting. I realise they have their own cultures and views and that they do assimilate into our culture. I did come away with a different respect on their religion. However the one thing i could not grasp was how they treat women as second class citizens. Some of their laws are also archaic and abusive but that is the way they are.

Thats exactly it, anyone, any religion can sell WHERE they assimilate, but the fact remains that the fundamental aspects of the religion create a rift that is not compatible.

Just like us and a rapist murderer, we have similarities. We are both human, we have hair, we like eatin pancakes, etc, but he could very well accept that rape and murder are something that is acceptable. I know its an extreme case, but you can apply those core value differences to anything, if not, you could pretty much just end up marrying anyone because essentially those core differences wouldn't impact on your happiness together, which is never the case.
