Can this be done ?
I want to install the Nissan diagnostic Software on the car stereo running windows XP. Then connect stereo to OBDII port in to the car (I have OBDII cable to run it from the original Dell tough book so would it not be a case of install the Nissan Software to hard drive of the Stereo.. Would I be able to boot up the Nissan Software while driving the Patrol but still have the function of keep the head rest DVD's working, music and so on. What car stereo’s run windows XP and have these kind of sockets ? Would I be able to install the Nissan software in this kind of stereo running XP ? Any ideas would be help. This then will do away with the need for boost guage and I can monitor all the inputs on one system instead of having to drive around with the lap top on the passenger seat.

Not sure there would be such a beast. These things normally run a PDA version of windows that isn't compatible with programs designed to run with your regular Windows XP. An exception may be applications written in Dot NET or perhaps even Java, but even then the PDA version of Windows (whose name escapes me at the moment - is it Windows CE??) will only run a subset of the functionality found in the full blown versions so again the apps won't be guaranteed to run. Of course it may be entirely possible that PDA versions of OBDII software exist then in this case there should be no problem as most Win CE based stuff can be hacked to get a Windows desktop.
As an alternative I'd look at installing a mini PC under the dash either outputting the display to the stereo screen if that were possible or having a second screen on the dash reserved for the PC display as there are some pretty cheap 7" and 10" PC screens around although I guess touch screen would be the best to save needing a keyboard or screen keyboard software. |

Apparently the Mac Minis are good and the intel chipped versions can be hacked to run Windows
