Default Extra Cab GU Ute

Picked this up in October 2013, but have been too busy to touch it. Now that I have sold the old wagon I can start spending time setting this up how I want it.

2003 GU TD42t with Extra Cab conversion by TL Engineering.

Pretty much stock except front bar, scrub rails and side steps, towbar, long range tank, 3" exhaust and dump, snorkel and polyair bags in the rear.

As this will be a weekend toy with the occasional tip run thrown in I'm planning a few mods for the future

3" lift with superior hybrid arms and relocated shock mounts to run longer shocks
maybe long arm kit in the rear, undecided on this at the moment
front and rear diff locks, eventually
transfer reduction gears
35" rubber
4.3 or 4.6 diff ratio swap
winch
upgraded lala
and sliders.

So far I have put in a cheap Bluetooth radio so I don't get pinged for answering the phone. Got carried away trimming the facia for it to fit, so it looks pretty dodgy.

I needed the factory IC for something else so I fitted a cheap china upgraded top mount IC into the factory bracket and picked up a bigger scoop as well. Will be interesting to see how well (or not) this works when I fit some gauges and start playing with the tune.

Fitted wheels and tyres off the old wagon. 255/85x16 BFG muddies on 16x7 -22 rims. These will do for normal duties and the plan is to buy something decent once the suspension is sorted.

Next plan is to fit some speakers and a small sub from an old car I had and find a steering wheel that doesn't fall to tiny little pieces in my hands.

Then I plan to fit a lunch box locker in the front and shim up the rear diff which will have to do until the missus gets her bloody pool.

Interesting conversion, any photos of the interior area of the extra cab?

Welcome to the forum. Good looking truck. What is behind the rear panel door? How deep is it? Arent you happy with the slider/brushbar setup you already have?

The rear panel door has nothing behind it. It is big enough to slide a 40 litre Engel in and out of though. I have an old fridge slide in the shed that I am going to fit.

The slider/brushbar set up deoesnt appear very strong. I am planning on fitting something a bit bigger in the future but not sure how it will go if I decide to fit a long arm kit in the rear.

Some pics of the interior of the extra cab, the raised part in the floor on the drivers side is to accommodate the long range tank the utes have. The fridge slide isn't mounted yet, trying to determine if I need to raise it a bit to clear the rubber seal on the access door.

I am thinking about mounting a seatbelt on the raised section in the back, along with a harness anchor point so I can fit one of the young blokes seats in the back. No doubt I will get it engineered, I was just thinking of bolting a lap belt to the box section around the reserve tank, with 2 inch square plates on the underside for the bolts to go through.

Does anyone know what size (thickness) metal the raised floor would need to be so that it was strong enough to be considered OK??

Finally got around to doing a bit more to this thing before winter. Made up a bracket to mount the UHF in the roof and ran the wiring and aerial cable up the passenger A pillar

Spent some time stripping the interior to get rid of 11 years of dust and crap from under the vinyl. Found a little bit of surface rust on the floor so sanded it back and applied some rust converter and than kill-rust white paint. Was surprised how much muddy **** was in behind the rear panel under the rear windscreen, I found a small hole that didn't have a grommet in it on the rear wall.

While the vinyl was up I ran some power cables into the rear and RCA cables, fitted an Amp in the back to drive a small sub for a bit of extra bass

Also fitted to anchor bolts on the rear wall under the windscreen so I can take the kids with me if I need to.

Order some Superior gear today, 3 inch lift kit with Amada Extremes and Hybrid Superflex arms. Probably take two weeks to get here in WA

And my Ebay light bar arrived today, will give me something to do this weekend.

Still debating to go with a lunchbox locker in the front or spend some more money and get an E-Locker

Coming along nicely. Love that fridge spot and with a shelf over it you still have a lot of storage space over the fridge.

My scoop looks good on that!

I would like to take a ride in this with the Amadas and see how it rides. Will trade you for a spin in mine with the lunchbox locker.

Good to see the progress pictures mate.
