Having owned both a 4.5 and now the 4.8, both on gas I would get around 330km's out of a tank on gas round town towing my builders trailer on 285/75/R16 in my 4.5, now on the 4.8 I get 350km's towing round town on 315/75/R16 mtzs, so yeh better economy from the 4.8 and power too

'98 4.5L ST on stock tyres

From recent trip to Brisbane,

17L/100km on Petrol
26L/100km on Gas
(so at that rate, it is actually only 40c cheaper to run on gas, and I don't think that's worth it, so I am removing the gas system.)

Around town, I think I get... 32L/100km on Petrol, and likely the same kind of ratio

hey guys,
I picked up my 2000 4.5L 5sp ST model 3 years ago.
back then running unleaded 14l/100km freeway and 18L round town.
when the fuel went way up I started using the E10 cause it was cheaper.
When i started on the E10 for the first year or so it was doing 18L highway and 20 round town, with one highway trip from syd to brisbane getting average 14l with a stretch of 300km or so doing 10!
since then it progressivly got worse until about 6 months back I had enough and went back to Unleaded.
Before I changed back to unleaded, i was getting 22 - 25L freeway, and 30L round town.
since changing back to unleaded its been doing 20-23 freeway and 25-27 round town.
these figures just seem horrible considering its only got 190000km on it with 2" lift and 33" tyres.
I am glad I only have to drive it on weekends when I cant use the missus' car.

Does this seem to anyone that my truck is running bad? cause I am trying my best to drive economically. or is fuel just gone ****?

Sounds dimilair to mine mate - Im getting terrible economy. dont know numbers, probably about the same.. I know i get about 250km's to half a main tank (how big is that tank btw) - Im running 6" and 35's
But in same boat with how often it gets driven, only gets used on weekends to tow my dirtbike around really haha - During the week ride the roady.

2002 4.8 injected gas, 295/16/75 ? I think?.

was 27 - 28 per 100, but pulloed of the full length mesh roof rack ( alloy) and it dropped.

Heliflyer.

It would be worth getting an injector clean and tune. If that is the cause you would save the cost fairly quickly. Also is cat blocked? (power down too - you may not notice this creeping up on you though). Have you had the tappets adjusted since you had it? (they can go tight eventually and cost you power, economy and burned valves). Don't forget e10 has less heat value than unleaded, so the savings are minimal. Also, alcohol is not nice to lots of rubber and plastic bits in the fuel system that cost lots if you need to replace.

I haven't seen better than 24L/100km on gas or petrol for a long time. Doesn't matter how I drive or if I'm towing, it's always crap! Lucky it's only a weekend car...

33s, 3" lift, steel roofrack and barwork + extras. Weighed it recently, 2820kg without me in it, empty petrol tank and full gas tank. With me in it and full tanks it would be close to its 2960kg GVM. Thats without the family or camping gear...
