Default Hi everyone - I'm importing a '91 Y60 TB42 to the states.

Hi everyone. I'm brand new to the Nissan Patrol/Safari world. I just put a down payment on a 1991 Nissan Safari 4 door in Canada with ~140k/km. It's manufacture date is 07/1991 so I have to wait until July 1 to pick it up and cross the border into the U.S. (to meet the 25 year minimum). Anyway - I just want to say hi and say I'll see you around.

I bought a VW TDI diesel in 2007 and that was my gateway into the diesel world. Now that I've drank the kool-aid I'm now full in.

Anyway - looking forward to learning more about the rig and learning from the community. Especially from those on this continent and how to get parts/accessories/repairs etc. Thanks everyone.

HL

Welcome, we don't have many US members, Canadians yes, but not US, at the moment I think you may be the only one......

Good luck with your venture and there is a lot of info on here to catch up on.

Are you thinking the TB42 is a diesel or is that a typo?

US_Safari_Shorty, how is your import going? The Y60 numbers in the US are growing. If you want help you need to reply.

always glad to see the community grow in regions where there isn't a strong presence

out of curiosity though, where do you US guys get parts?

I'm in Trinidad and the community here is small, most parts shops don't carry parts for MQ\MK or even GU

if I can get parts outta the US then it would be great

I have found that biting the bullet on shipping from Australian patrol sites and partsouq is the best bet.

The TD42 was used in forklifts here,I have found a distributor in TX that can get parts but they are all Chinese made...
TD42T was used in the UD box trucks as well which is another source for used parts.

here in New zealand we had a big import run of used japanese cars , safaris everywhere used as work truck s for painter ,builders ,and any other enterprise.
now a large amount are being sold as parts with great abandon,a 1989 truck or later still sell for over 8k or highe.
haven't started on the restoration front yet then it we'll be fun to see,

Welcome!

What is the USA equivalent of a patrol; as far as 4x4 capability goes?

When I was there i seen heaps of Dodge Ram's and Ford F-trucks but these are completely different. The closest similar type vehicle was Jeep Wranglers.

Hahaha, there is nothing compared to a Y60, Y61 TBD, with the TD42.....nothing. Next time you see a Jeep cover your eyes....and they drive like poop.

Well if you are comparing sales volumes it would appear that Jeep Wrangler like the Patrol in AU. They are everywhere! Everyone and their cousin has a Jeep Wrangler now. In terms of 4x4 comparison I would have to go with the Jeep Wrangler rubicon- especially the LJ model that is not produced anymore. Older Ford Bronco, International Scout, Trooper, Land Rovers, Land Crusier, etc.
