How have we gone from 2 drug dealers getting what they deserve to talking about trade with Indonesia?
If you want to get rid of the death penalty then the guilty should be tortured for the rest of their lives. At least if found innocent they are still alive (barely depending on the torture). It's not right for life sentence prisoners to be able to have anything more than what is needed to "just" keep them alive. They should be on soletry confinement from the second their sentance starts to the day they die with just enough food and water to keep them alive. Seems harsh but it is fitting.
Because a point was raised by someone else and the kerfuffle brought on by this situation has the potential to endanger our trade position, unlikely but possible, coming close on the heals of the cattle drama, boat turn backs and accidental Navy incursions into Indonesian waters, there is a very strong anti Australian ground swell in Indonesia, among politicians and officials, they would love nothing more than to see this grow out of proportion, Widodo doesn't give a s*** about us.
Not to get in the way of a good argument, but I'm pretty sick of people saying that they turned themselves around and they're rehabilitated now (before the other night at least)... I mean how hard do you think it would be to stay on drugs in a prison.
And what is the likelihood that they would be clean if they hadn't been caught and locked up?
Now the Feds are being scrutinized for giving Indonesia all the info originally. Of course the deliberately did it and for good reason. If they didn't and came back here they would get 3 years jail
There were 9 drug smugglers hanging on a verdict and if 7 drug smugglers were to accidentally fall, there'd be 2 drug smugglers left living in a jail.
There were two drug smugglers living in a jail and then there were none.
As a latte sipping, tree hugging, Chardonnay socialist I must say this 'debate' has been enthralling.
Not really I drink my coffee black!!
However all this ranting over the media and the government response to the executions is overdone. Capital punishment in a civilized society is simply wrong hence the United Nations opposes the death penalty. Ban Ki-moon the Secretary General of the UN asked the Indonesian Government not to execute those on death row. Even though this barbarity goes on in a number of countries including USA, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Iran, China plus others it does not make it right.
That some people have so little humanity for others and then come out with simplistic statements such as 'you do the crime in a country with the death penalty you reap that reward' and thus deserve it, does not justify this cruel act.
The 'war on drugs' that is spoken of by tough talking politicians, police and shock jocks alike has long been lost. It would be better to put resources into treating drug addiction as a social/health problem. However that is another issue.

Exacceree.... Fek the debate, they done it before and got caught on this occasion ==== Total disrespect for the country's law, Signs ( that cost a bitta cash I'd say with the amount of them ) Greedy fekers that got caught and fekin good job.... the more this type off Scum is wiped out the better for our future generations.....
those against the death penalty forget that they were guilty.the death penalty for accused who don't admit guilt/guilt can't be proven by dna etc should be sentenced to life in jail.take the Jill Meyer case- repeat offender = death penalty, Ivan Milat =death penalty just as those who pedal narcotics- we all know about overdoses etc should also get the death penalty.who cares about hippies smoking weed, all they do is eat weird sandwiches and fall asleep.Take off your blinkers and have a look at our society and ask yourself"would we be better off without narcotics'
If your guilt is PROVEN you get the death penalty, but if your guilt CAN'T be proven you get life imprisonment!!!! Fcuk I hope I never get accused of something I didn't do
Mate they tried that in the Middle Ages with witches, they tried to drown you, if you lived you were guilty and got burned at the stake, if you drowned you were innocent and I guess they apologised to your corpse???
I don't think it will end well for Abbott politically if there is a minute's silence or a scholarship named after a pair of common criminals, that is so far beyond wrong it's not funny.
I really don't see the point raised earlier about Indo's being executed in Saudi, I couldn't give a s*** whether Indo is hypocrytcal at all (but I knew they were anyway), that is their problem let them work it out. Regardless of what the UN says, Indo can do what it likes in it's own sovereign territory, that is their right whether we or anyone else likes it or not. The UN often has a go at us about varying things, they can piss off as far as I'm concerned. They have screwed more countries and people than they have saved.
The cartoon I put up says it all from my perspective.
Fellas you are missing the point here, guilt or innocence are not in question but rather that capital punishment itself is wrong. A point you obviously do not agree with judging by the many crass comments and crude jokes made in this thread.
Far be for me to attempt to change hardened views.

you say capital punishment is wrong, I say its not.in case you haven't noticed we are surrounded by scumbags that need to be dealt with accordingly.
eradicate that strain of genetic mutation and the world will become a better place
so maybe you are missing the point
Thats it Gee, these muppets wanting to have a minutes silence and rubbish, scholarship. please.... ef me. they dont know how good we got it here nufty fektards.......
When I've been overseas I get given loads of paperwork saying I need to understand and respect their laws and that the Australian government has no jurisdiction in pulling me out of the poop if I break their laws. It's pretty clear.
That was my mistake, I was watching abc news this morning quickly before going out for a while and I saw a pull through banner which I obviously miss read, I mentioned it later as part of a wider post but I did say I was unsure of the accuracy and it needed to be confirmed. My faith in Abbott has been re affirmed .
**** yes, and **** yes.
The world is too soft on crime. theres always a way to justify bad behaviour so that it appeals to the masses. Crappy childhood, perpetrator is thick as ****, didn't know, blah blah blah.
Harden the **** up, do the crime, do the time. It pisses me off that the media (and some members of society) have deemed these people as brave. They just aren't. Our soldiers are brave, these people were not.
I respect everyones opinion, laughed at the jokes, accepted the redneck element... even forgotten they were criminals.
What I find difficult to accept is the way the media and certain elements of our society have turned these two into heroes.
I'm even wondering how long it will be until the Pope is approached to lift them to Saint status.
and they were given 10 years for the appeal process- no wonder Widodo said enough is enough just shoot em.9kgs of pure evil didn't make it here.its like the so called unjust laws passed in Qld.....um anyone noticed that
1. nobody except those that deserve it have been arrested and 2. organised crime is taking a hit
