Default GU VI Radio Replacement

G'day Guys

just got my new GU this week and the mods have already started. I've got a DVD/MP3/Bluetooth/USB player to go in that I bought off ebay so I need to pull the old radio out to get to the new one.

I presume the dash surround come out the same as my old GU III. That is 2 screws above the heater controls and just prie it out gently.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, 2 screws then start prying from the bottom.
On another note can anyone help with removal of the A/C vents and storage compartment above the stereo. Once the surround is off there are 3 screws that hold it in, it then unclips around the top but I can't seem to get the top centre clip undone and I don't want to break anything. Is there definitely a clip there or do you need to do anything special to remove it.

I've had that part out several times. From memory, it just needs to be given a good bit of brute force to unclip it.

HI

Once you have installed it, could you take some pics as i would like to do the same in mine. How much was the system you bought and can you hook up an amp to it, as i would like to run a sub under one of the front seats (like BROADYSGU). Any feedback on this would be great

Cheers

Stuart

The unit was off ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&ih=009

$135 plus $65 delivery. I'dd say you could hook it too an amp without too much problem. Once its in i'll take some picks and can probably scan some pages of the engrich manual.

Looks like it has the outputs for an amp, seems really cheap. If it works ok, let us know, and i might grab one. It seems to have a low output to the speakers so an amp should bring good results...

The ebay in dash DVD/MP3/TV/USB stereo is in and operating. The result is OK. The biggest disappointment is that the bluetooth doesn't work with my Nokia phone. The bluetooth is something I really wanted. The MP3 function is OK but the screen is impossible and dangerous to operate while driving - definately a job for the passengers. The TV seems to work OK. There is no cut off with the hand brake like most locally purchased systems. The TV antenna is cable tired to the snorkel at the moment. I'm not really fussed with the TV. The USB port works well with thumb drives but will not operate with portable hard drives. And the sound has too much bass. Radio reception is fine - just needed an antenna adaptor for the Nissan plug.

I bought a loom harness adaptor and wired the supplied loop to it so that I can easily put back the OEM head unit. I used the AMP output to trigger the radio power antenna - works fine.

I still have some spare ports on the new unit so I'm thinking a front mounted camera for those tight city parking spots and rutted bush tracks. And I'll probably run the av output to the rear DVD screen when I get it so the TV / DVD can be viewed in both the front and back.

BTW the dash panel came out very easily. As did the old head unit. Probably took 10 minutes all up.

In dash touch screen DVD player come up quite well.

TV antenna is currently cable tied to the snorkel. I'm going to get an internal window mount anntenna with booster instead of this.

Looks good, have you got it running through an amp or just hooked the factory speakers to it. If so how is the sound quality though the factory speakers???

Looks like i might have to invest in one

No amp just factory speakers. Sound quality isn't as good as factory head unit. I need to fiddle with the equaliser settings to see if I can improve it.

Factory speakers seem to be better than in my old GU.

Bluetooth is now operational. The user manual leaves a little to be desired and wasn't clear on the bluetooth setup. An email to the supllier soughted it all out though.

GU VI is the CRD. I get a bit lost myself here.

I had a GU III previously. Released late 2002. Mainly an 03 model.

GU IV came out in 2004. Had new headlights, grill, taillights, flairs and updated interior.

GU V. Is the question? Is this when the 4.2l diesel finished and there was a bit of an update?

Yes. I have a 6230i and unit works as if it was any other bluetooth car kit. The bluetooth connection name is displayed on the nokia screen. Radio/DVD/MP3 cuts out automatically when call is received or made. Red and green phone buttons above the volume control can be used to control the phone. Alternately, you can skip to the bluetooth menu and use the touch screen to enter the number and intiate the call. Audio is via the car speaker system. Volume control via the touch screen. Range seems to be a bit limited. I have been getting audio breakup if I leave my phone in my right pocket. Works fine if I leave the phone in the centre console or in the tray in front of the nav screen.

I haven't tried to play music from the phone via bluetooth. Theoretically it should work as well.
