![]() ![]() Hi all, this is my second Patrol the first being a MQ. http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~...0mq_patrol.htm A Jackaroo unfortunately followed before the GU arrived in 2003. A had the dealer fit the following at purchase: Nissan Snorkel, towbar, airguide, ARB bullbar, IPF900 lights, Warn 9500lb winch, dual batteries, ARB compressor, ARB roof rack, tinted windows, auscruise cruise control, GME 3200 UHF radio, OME 2" lift, cargo barrier, 285/75 BFG AT's. Since then I have fiited the following: Uniden AM CB, Kenword CD stacker, 30mm procomp coil spacers, fire extinguisher, rear work light, stainless steel rear door table, shovel holder, Nokia car kit. I currently have sitting on the bench ready to go in a pair of Hella 1000 lights for the front of the rack and an 800W inverter to be mounted on the cargo barrier. The vehicle has been faultless since new. The first week out of delivery included a trip from Melbourne to Coffs Harbour - no worries. Regular trips include Toolangi and Gembrook. Love the Patrol and look forward to more mods!

G'Day Goodo, Where do you have you UHF radio mounted? I've been toying with the idea of mounting one for a long time, I currently use a handheld unit.
Do you have any pix of the radio mounted in your truck? Regards, Andrew |

UHF base is mounted under the centre console. There is heaps of room under there. I've also mounted my CD stacker modulator under there. The original install had the base mounted to the floor under the passenger seat. This is a **** position because the floor is low here so if/when the car fills with water the radio would be the first to go. With the base under the console volume was still a bit low so I've mounted a remote speaker to the bottom of the dash below the fuel filler release. This provides much better volume and clarity. UHF head is mounted adjacent to the gear stick. This is out of the way but hard to see with sunnies on and along way from normal driving line of site so not advisable to adjust while on the move. regards Michael

thanks for the feed back on the truck. I love it! The door table was built by my brother and law (a metal fabricator) and myself. It has worked a treat. To the point that we have started building them for sale. Have a look at the following link for more details: http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~...door_table.htm The one in the photo below is stainless steel but we can also build them in aluminium. Personally I like the stainless. It's easy to clean and great for preparing food on.

Took the rear swaybar out on the weekend. You can really feel the compliance in the rear - and the front swaybar working hard to overcome it.
There is a fair increase in understeer but overall the handling characteristics aren't too bad. I'm going to convert my swaybar links to dicsonnecting type. So ultimately will have the best of both worlds. |

Hi all
been workin hard so haven't had time to do much other than a couple of little mods. I've added some Hella 1000 to the front bar after relocating the IPF's. Heading to the bush this weekend and am looking forward to a couple of night drives to try them all out. Nearly finished the 800w inverter install. It's all in but somethings screwy with the solenoid. Will post pics of each once I get around to it. In the mean time here's a screen grab from a trip upto the Little Desert last year.

Since getting the GU the 4x4 bug has really hit me. I like the OME springs and dampers, there OK for 95% of the time. They ride well, particularly when I've got a bit of weight from the camping gear in the back - which is exactly when I need them to work there best.
In terms of height, I've added 30mm Procomp coil spacers to give an overall lift of ~80mm. It's actually a bit less as the OME's settled at about 45mm once all the other gear was added before the spring spacers went in(dual batteries, bbar, winch, etc). I'd love to put in a 4 or 5 inch lift in with maybe a five link front end. But then there are lots of things I'd love to do!! |

Hi all
its been a while since an update. We did a great trip on Melbourne Cup weekend upto the Murray-Sunset NP and surounds covering 2500km's of mainly sandy tracks in 6 days. Average fuel consumptions was 14.6l/100km's. ![]() But the Patrol is off the road at the moment. There was a loud noise from the front of the motor. I thought it was the idler bearing or a/c compressor. In fact the a/c compressor was noisy and Nissan are replacing it, but the real noise was coming from the power steering drive gear. Apparently half the teeth were missing from the gear. So now I have to wait for parts from Japan and put up with driving the loan Pulsar. Next trip looks like being to Toolangi on Australia Day weekend. regards Michael

I've just ordered the new GU IV. I haven't had much interest in the old girl even though she's got a few extras and Nissan extended warranty left on her.
Any genuine offers will be considered. So if your in the market for a well maintained, well set up GU with the security of factory warranty for another 12 months or 30,0000+km give me a call - 0408 280 453. Flicking through the forum I can't wait to get the new one. She'll come pretty much kitted but I'll still have some work to do on her to bring her upto spec. Looking forward to getting into the build up. regards Michael |
