Now I have seen the light and got the TD42 GQ and have been wondering where the hell to put the compressor. Do you have any pics of your mounting position etc and can you remember what the 1160mm belt is normally used for,ie what kind of engine or is it an industrial type v-belt(used one of these on the hilux but they didnt last as well as an automotive belt). Thanks, Damian

Pictures as promised:-
Mounts under injector pump ![]() Mounts are alloy 15mm both sides of housing i have these mounts drawn on AutoCad of PDF if you want a copy. Remember i don't have a vacuum pump mounted under housing like later models. New belt is a DAYCO 13A1360. ![]() Side bracket to make it stable i have now removed the back side bracket, it is not required. ![]() Pic from the top showing outlet position and no second bracket. ![]() Pic of pressure switch and blow off valve and non return valve, i used a piece of 6mmx75x75 alloy box because i can, you could do this in brass fittings like others, i did this to catch any oil and grease that may be pumped from compressor, also it is easier to mount compared to fittings. ![]() Intake air taken from air cleaner box. ![]() Pressure gauge to make it easy to set switch. Also relay to control clutch etc. Batteries are under tray in a cool spot and out of the road ![]() Hoses are hydrallic so they do not melt and blow off. Cost about $150 for hoses. ![]() !0 litre tank is under tray the black thing in the back ground. Outlets are either side with caps to keep the **** out. ![]() Other side with cap off, cap is bolted to tray so i don't loose it. ![]() And by the way the tray was welded by our apprentice to practice welding not to bad job but not survey yet. If you need more detail just ask.

Peter you have totally excelled yourself mate. Thanks very much for the time you have put in taking the photos and giving out the belt number for me, it is very much appreciated. I dont have the cutout switch as my blowoff valve isnt a safety valve but is actually set to blow off at 800kpa, then drops back to 700kpa and so on. Quite handy as everything just keeps ticking over without overpressurising the receivers. A pdf copy of your brackets would be great but I dont want to annoy you too much after the time you have obviously put into setting it all up. Great information mate, hopefully I can help you out some day.

Just for interest drawing of brackets they are very simple and easy to make. It wouldn't be hard to extend the bracket to clear a Vacuum pump. You would have to check belt wrap on crank pulley.

my bad, i just saw a boat sitting out the front and i though hmmm maby, obvously not, i may have a look one day after work, (as i work on Lear Jet Drive) and say a gday.thanks heaps for the pictures, im chasing up a compressor first and then i look at to where i will fit, as there may not be enough room under the vacume pump. I think i will use copper lines as thats not hard for me to come by, would you suggest 3/8 or 5/8 size lines??

Drop in anytime you are welcome, i am always after sparkys, maybe you will be really rich one day and have a need for a real vessel. Back on subject it is nice to use 1/2 inch for outlet and 5/8 inch for inlet if you get a compressor with SAE fittings it is easy but with the ISO oring type you are restricted to 3/8 and 1/2 inch tail fittings. Using copper is ok but some where you will have to change to heat resistant hose.

What I used with my previous setup was high pressure touch fittings and 1/2" touch fitting tubing(blue plastic stuff) for the whole system as it is really easy stuff to use and there are are a lot of different fittings available, including check valves. I ran one of these between the compressor and receivers so the air didnt bleed back through the compressor. But Peter is bang on the money when he says the air gets bloody hot, I could only run it from the firewall back as it used to melt straight out of the compressor.

If anyone is interested I have drawings of brackets similar to those used by Endless Air to fit a GQ/GU. When I fitted my Sandon a mate laser cut the brackets and I fitted it all up.
They are a bit more complicated than OldMavs though. |

SootyGq,
I've a compressor of a similar style to OLDMAV's that I wanna setup.... I'll be interested in your drawings also.... more information the better to get me started.... As to the OLDMAV setup, is this going to put additional pressure on the Diesel PUMP? could this cause an issue??? HEATH |

If you knew the background and research that has been put into this set up, you then would understand why the bracket are so simple, i believe in the KISS principle. Anyway the system is only attached to the steel engine block which so happens to be the housing that also supports the injection pump and steering pump, this housing is more than strong enough to support a A/C pump under axial load. As for issues i have tried a few different brackets and locations they all have some problems, for me i decided under the pump has the least issues, The only drawback with this system is it does reduce the belt wrap a bit on the crank pulley i have calculated the contact area and the slip moment when wet supplied by belt companys for a 13A belt and as long as you don't rev the engine past 4800 rev the belt will stay on and still have a reasonable wear life. The water pump pulley also has another belt attached which is seperatly driven which also adds to our advantage to which i didn't add into the equation. You ask for tech so the answer is tech and reasons why.

Thanks for that update Peter.....
You've obviously put some thought into this little project... As I said I'm trying to work out my best way forward for the unit I have. Are they all the same size? How can I work out if the AC unit I have is compatible with your bracket design? I was just trying to back track for a second... What did you do for lubrication on your unit? did you mention that in a previous posting??? if you did then I'll have to have a reread... THANKS..... HEATH
