This is where I went. In the end I couldn't justify not spending the extra few hundred for a tyre I knew over saving a few dollars and getting something that I didn't really know.

wow....thanks for the post mate! I drive those sort of roads all the time up here...that is fast dirt/gravel, with loads of corrugations....and these roads travelled when touring and heavily loaded really test your tyres out! I had a very similar experience with maxxis MT's, around Darwin on the dirt they were fine....but when I loaded up and went through the Kimberly they were rooted! Heat, sharp rocks imbedded in corrugations at speed fully loaded for big distances is definitely not the same as doing high country or slower rock hoping etc!

Just an update.
30,000 Km's, totally unusable. Had to take them off the truck after a trip up the Birdsville track.

Update time....we have about 37K on our Y62 at the moment and probably about 25K with the SRL's, In the beginning these tyres were great in all conditions, but now after nearly 2 years these tyres are starting to become noisier on road as well as showing more understeer in corners (at first these were brilliant in corners, even in the wet, might just have to slow down a bit!!), they are nowhere near as bad as my MT MTZ's were in the wet when a couple of years old, but there is still a very noticeable difference now. There is some slight cracking around the base of some of the tread blocks but nothing like Rainsey's, there is a couple of small chunks out of the blocks, but nothing too bad. They are starting to feather a bit now and if not rotated at around the 5K mark they start to howl a bit more. Most of the km's have been on bitumen with a little bit of 4wding in between, as well as towing our 16' van. The tread is down to around 10mm so hopefully we will get a few more km's out of them. Would I buy the SRL's again, in the beginning I would have said a resounding YES, but now after a couple of years, NUP, I will change to something else a bit more AT based.
