Default Tyre Topic - Toyo MT

Is anyone running this new tyre yet? Looks like a Cooper STT but should be cheaper.

I think they've been around for a while..

and I'm pretty sure they're a bit dearer than a cooper

Yes these tyres came out to Australia Sept 06 and you are right they cost more than the Coopers.

I am also about to decide between the Cooper STT and the Toyo Open Country MT. Both seem to have similar specs, and the best price I can get in brisbane is $310 for the coopers, and $330 for the Toyo.
My 4wd mechanic strongly advised the Toyo ( he doesn't sell them).
Another friend in the mining industry said Coopers are not used on the 4wd on the mining sites. My current Cooper ST have served well, other than chipping etc, but looks like the Toyo will get a trial.
Also liked the Toyo promo - '..used in competition rock climbing and competition 4wd racing.' Now thems fighting words for a tyre company...Keith

Hi Guys,
I've been running 35 Toyos OC M/T's for over 2 months now. 99% of my vehicles work is off road, rock work etc...I would highly recommend them. Have had Maxxiis, Coopers but this tyre has the beating of them all. Haven't lost a lug yet!

Saw a set of Toyo MTs on GU today and was very impressed with tread pattern. I will try a set of these once my current tyres wear out.

Last time checked the Toyo dealer wanted $440 for 33x12.5 15R and Tyer Power wanted $360 for the same size, this Toyo would be most expensive MT tyre on the market but once you have seen them, they look like they are worth the extra $. This tyre looks like a Coopers STT on steroids.

Yes that is the tyre, here are some clearer pics of the sidewalls and tread pattern. You have to see this tyre in the flesh to appreciate it.

They certainly do look good in that sidewall pic.
I considered them before the Federals, but decided they were too expensive. Maybe next time.

That look like a nice tyre, and have lots of sidewall tread that should be come in handy in sand when the tyre is aired down.

currently running procomp xterrain but will definitely look for one if the toyo is available here in Indonesia, which probably will since they have the open country AT here, so hope the MT is available too.

Does anyone have tried it? Tyre noise, tread life, etc? Since I'm having hard time with the procomp right now, since it make crazy noise at 20-30kmh.

The Toyo's sure look great, and from what I've heard they are very good tires.

I have been trying to get hold of a set in 37/14,5-15 for my Patrol, but for a odd reason they don't deliver that dimension to Europa. (I live in Norway).
My plans are to order them from USA and have them shipped by boat because of the freight costs.

Are you able to buy them in 37/14,5-15?

Regards Magnar.

They don't have rim protectors and if you do search on this tyre most owners can't fault this tyre. The only issues I have come across is the price is higher than most tyres but everyone that runs them says they are worth it due how it performs and the other issue is that this tyre weighs 10% more than any tyre but this due to the very thick side walls which so far have never failed.
