Default 08 ZD30 CRD GU Needle and dawes affecting blowoff noise

Hey just wondering if it's normal that when you install a needle and dawes valve that your boost blowoff noise changes, I used to get a long high pitched noise that sounded awesome, but now I barely get any and what I do is quick and deeper pitched. Just concerned something is wrong.

Needle and Dawes were installed to rid my GU of unpredictable boost and maxes out at 19 +/- 1PSI.

Yes, that is not unusual, nothing wrong if you have it setup in the ways described in our NADS section of the DI archives, I know yours is a CRD but they react the same that is why the detail remains in the DI section. Sometimes those noises you hear that sound great are actually damaging your turbo with things like surge.

Damn haha it sounded so good, now just to fix the occasional overboost limp when climbing long hills, which is odd because I'm only getting 17-18PSI max and my spool rate isnt even super fast so it shouldn't really be limping. I'm sure I'll figure it out at some point.

Thanks mate.

We have written a hell of a lot of info up about limp in the DI NADS section, the CRD and the DI do react very similarly with subtle differences, spoolup rate does play a part in it, but load does also, the worst limp is when your out on the highway at 100k and want to overtake a slower vehicle up a hill, you squeeze the throttle and ...... bloody limp. If I was you I would be reducing boost to somewhere between 15 and 16psi for a little while and working up from there slowly, it is not the outright boost that is causing limp, that won't happen until you hit over 25psi, it is going past certain MAF voltages at certain revs that will do that, there are 3 zones (some say 4 but in all my years of driving mine I've never seen the much lower 4th).

My 2 cents worth.

Okay great I'll have a read in the DI section, I was having trouble finding needle and dawes setup info before.

you are over the limp threshold of 17 pounds.

My CRD you can spool as fast as you like so long as you dont sustain over 17 PSI under heavy load for a set duration.

I would actually like a way of tricking it, if anyone knows an elegant way I am all ears until I get a remap.

You can do it with a resistor in the MAF loop but it effects the whole range unfortunately.

That's odd, before I put my manual boost controller in I would sit at 20PSI + for extended periods and never got an overboost code. It's only since installing the controller that I started getting the code.
