Default Who gets flu shots?

I got my first one today. All the blokes at work got one so thought I'd join them. I've heard some people can get sick from them. Hope I'm not one of those people

I get a flu shot each year. Occasionally get slight flu symptoms after a shot, sore joints and so on, which go away quickly.
For me, avoiding the flu is worth the temporary discomfort.
Keep in mind, the flu shot covers several, but not all, flu strains. So its possible to have a flu shot and still get a flu. The shot just reduces the probability.

Nope.
Probably had one at some point, some year. Maybe high school.

I don't remember the last time I got the flu either. The missus gets some form of it every year, I'll only get a slight cold maybe once a year.

I do. Had the proper flue once and I was very sick for about three weeks. It can kill.

Yeah. This season is supposed to be pretty bad with something like 40,000 reported cases already. Proper flu knocks most people out of work / play and I like to play so jab away I say

I do. It stops you from getting the nasty few strains from the norther hemisphere.
For me its free at work.

I rather not be out of action and getting the flu can get quite depressing when you are bed ridden and out of it. That week or two drags on!

It is a dead inactive virus or part of it to trigger your body into protection
Some people get very very mild symptoms that last for a day.

I would get it if you can.

The only time I have ever had anything like a Flu shot was, when I had Swine Flu and they gave me a Tamiflu shot to lessen the symptoms. Never got anything like a cold or the flu for 5yrs after that.

Had mine done a few weeks ago, I cannot afford to get the flu after issues with ribs and dust during a road trip leading to pneumonia, so I line up every year, can't afford the risk.

Default Who gets flu shots?

I get it now we have kids, never had it before that,
But even though I had the shot I got influenza A about 5 weeks ago.
Itís absolute hell whole body aches and just have no energy to even get up, first time in my life Iíve literally lied in bed or on the couch for 5 days straight.
By the end of it I was just going crazy not doing anything and decided to go mow the lawns..... big mistake that was, absolutely knocked me for 6 even though I felt better, once moving around and being physical it puts you back in your place pretty quick and reminds you that your not 100% better

Depending on the person it can take some time before full immunity is gained, or, you got a flu the vaccine didn't cover, I'm lead to believe there are 2 different serums out there at the moment, one for younger people and another for us old farts.

Could be. Young and old people are more susceptible to different types of flu. Last year the vaccine missed what turned out to be two of the biggest strains of the year -- one of which hit the kids, and the other which hit the elderly.

So it would make sense to target different strains depending on age.
