ps. it was a 4hr job to do the intake, don't underestimate it. get everything off and away before you attempt the turbo inlet, it's a ***** with no space. remove first the outer and lower bolt before attempting the one next to the engine. you have have to remove the bracket that the earth is attached to from the alternator on the engine in the CRD, you just can't get enough room otherwise. Also the bracket that the coolant pipe is connected to can be moved forward easily once the bolt its held in place with (under the alternator on the side) has been loosened off, hope that makes sense.

As said earlier, you've got this. Thanks for sharing! I've bookmarked this topic, I will be back in a GU at some point and topics like yours make it easy for punters like me to sort/solve/avoid problems - this is why we are part of a forum. Keep it coming!

so interesting development. its only 1 tank's (120L) worth but since doing my 2.5" turbo inlet mod I've gotten 15.2L/100 instead of the regular 13.5, now 2 factors other than the inlet are most likely influencing this. I am not currently running a needle valve as I am 1/2 way to moving it into the cab, and I've been stuck in some pretty heavy city traffic. The traffic will be a constant in the next year so will be interesting to see if the needle valve reinstallation fixes this.

have moved the needle valve into the cab. interestingly my last tank was back to 13.5L/100km, mainly city driving. glad to have the needle valve back on, much nicer to drive and control the spool rate from in the cab.

I don't think the 2.5" is playing that big of a part in worse fuel eco, it didn't lastingly impact on mine when I did the original one, I generally find it is the right foot experimenting and will settle.

Have you had a remap yet? if so I would like to see you give the vacuum solenoid a try (still keeping Dawes/Tillix or whatever you have to control maximum) as I've had great success with the re-installation of mine.

Harley mentioned something the other day about a special coming up, maybe it's this week. Give him a call.

I've got a voucher from Harley and David for a remap to the value of $1000 for the Show and Shine .

Yes, I've been back on factory controlled spool for over 4000k now, and have logged hours of data from my ECU, lost no performance, indeed it may have shown a slight improvement, fuel eco was the winner though, the old girl does more with less, I cruise at 100k 1-2psi lower than I used to and the VNT dances to power requirements instead of being hard up when Dawes has full control. EGT has not changed I still cruise at 200-240c.

Hi, geeyoutoo.

What is your maximum boost? Mine is 22psi. All mods list here in this topic was installed and remap. Yes its dancing at cruise to100, but my egt went up to 400c.
I didn't see this when i set my needle valve to 16psi at 100. Cheers

I'm running 21.5psi, I cruise at 100k at around 14-15psi naturally rising to 18-20psi in hilly terrain, it rarely hits the maximum of 21.5psi unless it is a very steep hill in which case my EGT might reach 400-450c at most, normally cruising at 200-240c.

So the purchase has been made! a 450x300 FMIC will provide around 2.5x the surface area to the current stock TMIC, not have the same heat soak. time to buy some pipe and silicon..

I think i've managed a few mods of recent times. The little guy has been up and down with his health which has made it difficult getting any consistent time to work on the patrol.

Roof rack needed to be changed to one with a mesh floor so I can carry a proper sized roof bag. So lights had to be changed over, awning and I can now mount my high lift jack and shovel on the side (old rack was a flat rack so couldn't mount them.

Exhaust got wrapped today, forgot how much difference that had made in the 4.8, but after a drive down the Hume recently where I spent some time in the passenger seat it got too hot to rest my feet against the footwell where the exhaust passed it. Dump pipe was too tricky for todays time frame so that will have to wait until another time.

a lot of wiring will need to be done, extra lights have been added and more still to go.... cig lighters changed to anderson plugs etc....

Recently drove up from Omeo to Mt Gibbo and Pinnibar, highly recommend these tracks, but be prepared for some rough tracks and for Victoria it's pretty remote. The sub tank played up and I wouldn't have made it without the fuel in it all the way to Thredbo, but thank goodness I remembered the old trick of disconnecting the batteries to reset the sub tank module.

Looks good. I have noticed the passenger side gets quite warm on mine also. Is that wrap stuff quite effective? and how does it go with mud and dust?

yes its very effective. also has dropped EGT's, i guess cause of less heat soak in the engine bay. the old patrol had it on for 3 years and it held up pretty well. did mud and dirt plenty. very cheap effective mod.

Often thought about doing this but never got around to it, not sure why it would reduce EGT though, that's a mystery.

Default Dan's CRD 2012 build and list of mods...

I wrapped my dump pipe and part of the next section till just passed the clutch slave cylinder before installing. Amazingly cooler in comparison to my previous Patrol which wasnt wrapped.
One tip though. If I was to do it again Id wear gloves!

I need to stop looking at this site, the "to-do" list keeps growing.
@mad_possum are you going to document your FMIC build?
