Default Cummins V8 new engine imports

I read an article today saying WA Cummins will start importing new engines into Aus and that they may be a good retro fit to some patrols? (Apparently this is currently the engine in the Nissan Titan?)
Does anyone know how easy it would be to fit to a 2008 patrol compared to the Duromax?

Cheers

I think you will find that it is the R2.8 Cummins Repower kit that they are talking about.
https://www.cummins.com/engines/repower

This is US dollars on this flyer. I think the price will be up around $15k in Australia.

Sorry my mistake, I thought you were talking about Cummins itself. Just found on Facebook that Cummins Imports are bringing a couple of second hand ISV engines in. The above engine I put the link in for will be able to be purchased through Cummins as a kit.

It would be a bit of a job shoehorning the ISV Cummins into a patrol. No different to a Duramax I guess.

Which Cummins ISV 5.0? Made in the USA or China?

If it's the V8, I would assume it's the USA made Titan motor. Did they come out of China too?

i think they are Us made only. The article from memory went on to say they will still be hard to come by as all the V8 engines are made under agreement with Nissan that all motors go to Nissan for fitment into the Titan and other than that the only other motors built are as replacement stocks for Nissan's use. Or something to that effect. Essentially no crate motors etc for public consumption.

Basically the article was less of a public service announcement and more of a for sale ad for Cummins Imports Australia who have a couple of used engines listed on facebook apparently. Still very much wishful thinking for the time being. But an interesting one if it bolts easily to the 4.8 5 speed auto.

Pity, will have to wait till more of those Yanks damage their Titan or Armarda super truck things and send the wrecks to us here.

Other down side is that it needs both a DPF and a catalytic converter that runs the Ad-Blue stuff both of witch have sensors hooked into the computer. I believe the engine computers are Cummins and they are even harder to bypass or get a stand alone than any of the previous generations of Nissan motors. So it might be a few years till the aftermarket engine swap guys get the parts together to make it an easy alternative to the Duramax which has been around for swaps so much longer.

Those 3 chains at the front of the Cummins 5.0L V8 engine scare me.
Heavy duty diesel power plants should all be gear driven IMO.

That seems strange.

When it was introduced it was available in a different outputs for different applications like any other engine of this nature.

Cheers

Dont know about that but the article suggests the motor is just for Titans and some motor homes that Nissan must do.

Agree. Cummins engines were the synonym for durability and simplicity: inline, gear driven, ... This 5.0L V8 doesn't look like it holds this standard.

I had heard the same motor was also going to go in the Toyota Tundra as well, but not sure if that happened or if Nissan and Cummins did an exclusivity deal or what.
