It's not for me really but hey I was a young bloke too once.
The old UD I used to drive in the 90s used whistle between gears.
It was gutless but I loved that sound.

The fluttering usually happens on turbo models because of the throttle body plate closing shut and the turbo is still spinning and pushing air and theres no whee for air to go except backwards surging the turbo. Hence people have blow off valves installed. That vents that excess air.

On a Diesel model without the throttle plate. I have no idea
I do like any turbo sound though, be it spooling, Turbo flutter, Blow off valve

That sounds, um, healthy for the turbo.

That compressor surge in theory isnt good but you see a gazillion petrol turbo cars run without blow off valves and they seem to survive.
Some blow off valves just plumb back into the intake so its quiet.
