Default Fuel usage - Simpson Desert

Hi All,

I am in the planning stage of doing the 4 corners - Poeppel, Haddon's, Cameron's and Macades corner with the Simpson desert thrown in the mix of course. I'm just seeing if anyone has done Poeppel's corner from Dalhousie Springs through to Birsdville in their Y62 and if so how did you go regarding fuel usage. Working on how much extra to fuel to carry.

Thanks

Have a look at the Y62 Facebook page , fuel and the Simpson have been talked about there a few times , the last one I remember someone claimed 120lts from Mt Dare to Birdsville.
That's less than my 3lt Hilux used , I wouldn't feel comfortable doing a Simpson crossing with only the std 140 lt tank .

That might be true but how much is that ?

The shortest route from Birdsville to Mt Dare via the French line is about 500k , so I guess you could use as much as 28lt x 100 and do it on a single std tank .

Last time we crossed there was a big detour to get to Big Red and we also had to do the Eyre Creek bypass

We had a look at the Lone Gum Tree and drove several of the other tracks , all that added up to a fair few more K's

Thanks Guys, yes I will be taking extra fuel, looking at carrying an extra 60ltr to give me a total of 200ltr. We have 10 cars going ranging from Patrols, Landcruisers, Range Rovers and Triton utes.

Mate no idea.
Never really wanted to go outback yet.

Work out km and budget 25lph then add 40l to be safe.
Are you towing?

No towing, decided to leave the camper trailer home, have done what you have suggested and worked out fuel use at around 25lrt / 100km. Plan is to fuel at Mt Dare then head to Dalhousie Springs for the night. Next day is to Poeppel Corner then onto Birdsville. If need be iíll Chuck in another 20ltr to give me 80ltr spare. Averaging 15-18ltr/100km when packed on open road so the 25ltr should be good.

A extra 60lt will probably be plenty ,
We have always gone from East to West but that probably wouldn't make much difference to the amount of fuel needed .
I haven't driven my 62 in any sand yet but I imagine it would make short work of the dunes .
With mix of 10 different vehicles it should be a interesting comparison how they handle the dunes , fuel usage ect
When are you going and don't forget to report back how it all goes.
Have a great trip

Thanks Guy's for the info, the trip is from 1 April 2020 to 14 April 2020 with around 3,350km to cover. Given the number of cars going this gives us plenty of planning time as we have a two cars which have limited 4x4 experience. Pictures and fuel stats will be posted when we go.
