Hey Guys i seem to be having trouble with my engine not wanting to fire up and after doing the initial checks I'm a bit buggered.
* it has fuel going in to the carby but i took this off and cleaned this out any way, also replaced the fuel filter.
* it has spark at #1 plug.
*dizzy is rotating.
* hooked up timing light But no light flashing on timing light ( brand new out of box unless bulb was already blown.)
have now run battery to low on charge ATM.
even took off the lead off the coil and it was producing spark.
??? Have I missed any thing that i should look at ??
could the timing belt have slipped?
if a cant figure it out ill take it to mechanic for him to look at.
Cheers Dink
Thanks in Advance.
Also this was on the Base of carby between inlet manifold but the plug was off would this affect the starting of it??

Without looking at the manual I think that connector is the carb heater. Shouldn't really effect too much unless its absolutely freezing.

You can buy a spark tester or go to an auto electrician they can test how far and strong each lead is throwing a spark and work your way back from there if the spark is **** i.e. cap, rotor, ignition module, coil. Have a look in a service manual they've got a troubleshooting guide.

It's strange you should say it happened just after filling up, you put the right fuel in right? is the motor turning over or is just completely dead? can you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn key to acc? lots to test just work your way through possible problems

Bamr33 I fueled up at the same pump as i have done for the last 12 months, just regular unleaded. is the fuel pump on the RB30 carby mechanical or electrical as i dont think i have ever heard the fuel pump Priming..
The car turns over thinking it wants to start but doesn't that why i thought it was the timing belt s%#t it self but then i did not hear it slapping around.
its just strange that everything that's needed for it to run looks to be there.
Thanks for your Response's

the electric fuel pump is in the tank. If you can't hear it take the feed line to the carby off and get some one to turn the key to see if there is fuel pumping out. Could be a blockage in the carby, when you pull the throttle cable is fuel injected. Checked All the fuses?

There things a petrol needs to run

Fuel
Spark
Timing

I know youve checked this, but go over each again with a fine tooth comb.

Pull timing covers off and maybe check the timing if your sure the rest is fine.

Did the problem first happen randomly, or after you performed some maintenance work on the truck ?

May be water in the fuel

Run some fuel into a glass and have a look at it. ( should be all the same colour, with no bubbles)

Happended to me years ago, fueled car, drove about 100 meters then she stopped.

Re carby base heater, the heater has been broken out - common mod. Dont connect the wiring.

Try swapping the fuel pump relay with the Air con one.

Had this happen to mine the other day (although in the shed). Car started and ran fine once then I shut it off and restarted it and it only ran for about 1 minute before dying completely. Swapped relays and it works fine again.

If you know someone with another RB30 Patrol see if you can borrow their coil as well. Coils have a habit of dying at random.

I'd suspect you have water in your tank if it stopped after filling up.

Happened to me, filled up before trip to Perth and gas tank.

Across the nullarbor thought use the petrol for a while and it coughed and spluttered all the time put back onto gas fine.

Tried the metho trick and ran as much as possible to use up the fuel because no drain plug on 95 RB30 carby model tanks.

Opened top by removing fuel pump and there was 2" of water still in the tank and had to siphon out and clean out with rags.

Good luck and hope you have a drain plug. They were putting in new underground tanks when we returned to Adelaide:mad:

Try a splash of fresh petrol down the throat to see if it tries to fire up.

Ok Did a bit more investigating and discovered the front cam seal had s%&t it self and through some oil in to the timing belt cover. It must have been doing it for a while as the cam wheel was clogged up with gunk and must have slipped. As I don't know when this was last replaced the belt it self had shredded apart at the side of it. So i have ordered the timing belt kit but god only knows when it will show up due to the storms we are copping at the moment here in Central Western Queensland. but while I'm at it doing the timing kit ill give the old girl the once over new belts filters and fluids.
Thanks everyone for your input and ideas I am greatly appreciative of this.
Cheers Dink.
I will let you guys know when the old girl is up and running (thats if it was only the timing belt issue)
Hope everyone has a Happy and safe Christmas. and don't get caught in flood waters. its not the depth of the water its the side current that people sometimes underestimate.
