trying to replace the front main oil seal on the 2.8.
i have got everything off but the crank shaft timing sprocket, knocked the key out of the key way but the sprocket does not budge.

Anyone done it before. advice on getting the bugger off would be great as the manual doesn't say S#$T about it.

Cheers.

Sorry guys,
Stupid me found the thread about exacly what i was looking for on here.
Just didnt type in the right words. Im going to have to drill and tap into the sprocket and get a puller onto the end.
YAY, the job just keeps getting better, and the truck gets to stay off the road longer. (All said in a sarcastic manner)

All done, drilled and tapped, got the puller on to it, slipped off gracefully.
Problem is that i was so gun ho to get the bugger off that the sprocket is now damaged from the knockometer (hammer) so i have to buy a new one anyway.
Just goes on the list of things to buy, for a weekend of maintainence its so far costing me upwards of 2 grand and 2 weeks of the road. LOL.
But hey, i wouldn't be doing it if i didnt love my Patrol.
Cheers Smokey, may your wishes of good luck come true this week for me.

$2000??????? Is that just to do the front of the motor or have done other stuff? I had My mechanic do all the seals in the front, tensioner, timing belt, water pump and all external belts, cost me just under $800. I'm with smokey mate and I hope your luck changes very quickly.
Cheers

Sorry Troy, i i probably should explain the rest of the gear thats getting replaced.
The plan was to do the spigot bush in the crank shaft, so while the gearbox was off i would do the rear main aswell. Pulled the gearbox off and found the Duel Mass flywheel was F'd. So i need a new one of them.
Front main was leaking so i have to replace it but and becuase of what happened i have to replace the sprocket.
Having the injectors tested (upside) FREE - (downside) they have to be rebuilt around the $600 mark.
Add up all my parts, Flywheel around $400 - $600 cant remember. injectors $600, Sprocket - and thanks for the average price $110, plus various parts $100 - $200.
OK. Maybe its not $2000+. But im still looking around the $1500+ mark depending on the flywheel and No. 1 injector as it has that electronic sensor in it.

Yeah, thats true mate.
Just got all my quotes together. im at $2038. Going for a brand new solid flywheel and exedy heavy duty clutch kit.
The main reason i am doing it all at once is because as of Monday next week i will have a company car care of my new work. So i just want the big girl to be 100% mechanically so i can start saving for the fun stuff. Like a snorkle, winch, more spotties and a campa. Already got a 4" lift, winch bar, Powerfull 4x4 rear bar and brand new 33" Maxis muddies. So i have just been spending the money in the wrong areas, but [email protected]#T it looks good.

While i got some attention here, has anyone done the spigot bush in the crank shaft and is willing to give some pointers as to how to get the little bugger in. already broke one. at $10 this was alittle pricy, but now i got them at $4 per bush so i bought 2 for the 2nd attempt.
