I'm guessing this is one reason why you block EGR and fit an oil catch can!!

I had a feeling it would be sort of dirty, but this is something else.
I think ill be fitting an oil catch can and cleaning the manifold out ASAP (EGR already blocked).

Any one else with a 2.8 got the same fright when looking into the manifold?

Cheers-

Yeah mate, im doing my injectors. pulled the intercooler off and she looks about the same, chockers with oil and soot all the way from the turbo to the intake manifold. My engine is completely stock, nothing has been blocked or replaced. I will definately be putting a catch can in before i put it all back together.

Since your doing all this, might help if you block the EGR. There is heaps on the forum about it.

I use to think a catch can wasn't worth it, but after today..

So to block the EGR, you have to make a blank off plate to go in between the EGR and inlet manifold.
In the photo you can see the hole in which you have to block.

Hope the photo's help.

I was originally going to do the spigot bush, front seal, rear seal and my injectors. Found the fly was dammaged so decided that needed replacing. Then seeing this post i had a look down my intake and went F#@K. So i decided to do it to.
I have time to do it while im inbetween jobs, and seeing as i start the new job on monday. i gotta get a move on to put it back together.
So far - inlet manifold is back on with the EGR blocked. injectors are back in. new timing belt, tenioners, front main seal and new crank sporket are on. all thats left is the new fly and clutch then put the rest back together and give it all a polish.

How much build-up of crud is there on the top of the inlet valves? I couldn't believe my poor thing could breath enough to rev out the way it would.

Head off and cleaned also.

I had a look into Galxy Gu's manifold today,
Pretty much the same as mine.
I reckon its a good idea for all 2.8 owners to clean the manifold. Cant be a healthy thing having all that crap like it is...

Cheers,
Stoffy
