hey guys, my 4.2td GUIV has a piece of sponge/foam between the engine and bell housing. anyone know its purpose. i recently did a messy oil and filter change and now this sponge is oil soaked and leaking. i'm hoping it is just from the mess i made.

My one did a similar thing but it kept leaking, Last month I replaced the rear main seal as it was causing the oil in the sponge, good luck with it

Its a very well designed piece of sponge to soak up oil at changes and make you think the rear main is gone ....

I got rid of mine. It's just for noise suppression.
