Hi all

Dad recently purchased a 4.8 patrol, stuck gas on it, and swapped over the 2in lift, bullbar, and other mods from the old 4.5. Now when this car was purchased, we believed it was supposed to be better on fuel than the 4.5. However, the consumption is worse than average (sorry don't know exact figures) and we are not happy. After browsing this forum, I have read that the oxygen sensors affect the 4.8's economy quite dramaticaly and wanted to know how to check if the sensors were still in good order, :anger:eek:r if they are stuffed. Also, are the cheaper sensors on ebay etc any good, or just a waste of money?

Any help and info appreciated

hi, I have heard the eBay ones can give trouble, but I'm not real sure on that maybe some one else can help there but as far as economy goes I've had a 4.5 hence trading up to the 4.8 with more power and yes better economy for me anyway

I recently moved from a 4.5 to a 4.8 and consumption was lower by approx 2L/100km. Same running gear - lift, tyres, long range fuel tank, roof rack etc - i.e. I swapped it all over.

No gas fitted to either vehicle; it restricts the range of the vehicle too much.

Thanks guys, that sort of confirms that something is wrong. Any ideas on what could be causing the high figures, as prviously mentioned o2 sensors, etc. Anyone else had similar issues and found out how to solve?

Get an ECUtalk guage.
It will give you all the readings for all the sensors.
Best money I have spent on my tb42e. Search the forum and have a read.

I have heard that LPG can stuff out the 02 sensor earlier than normal.

If the 02 sensor stuffs out it reverts the computer to a factory default. Mine would run fine on a cold morning and then run like crap as it warmed up.
